"We all are standing in solidarity with the people of Manipur ...," said Rajesh Kumar Sethi, in charge of Manipur from the AICC Minority Department.
"They are facing continuous violence in their state. I addressed the gathering in Delhi earlier this week and referred to Prime Minister Modi's own slogans, "Ek hain toh Safe hain" (Unity brings safety) and "Batenge toh Katenge" (If divided, will be silenced)," Sethi told this blogger.
He argued that the "reality in Manipur is the opposite" .
"The sad part is the BJP has divided the community, leading to killings and violence. I asked, where is the safety? Where is the unity and safety that was promised?," Sethi said.
"The BJP is doing the opposite of what it says in Manipur, dividing and silencing people. If things continue like this, the same situation may arise in Nagaland as well.
In 2015, Modi ji signed the Naga Peace Accord, but nine years later, there is still no peace in our state," Sethi said adding "I come from that state of Nagaland where people are suffering because the Naga Solution agreement has not been signed".
"In fact, the number of underground groups has risen from just 2-3 in 2015 to 25-27 in 2024. Where is the peace? Businessmen have been the most affected, forced to leave their homes and settle in neighboring Assam or other parts of India".
"Through your blog piece and our socio-political platform, I request Modi ji to visit Manipur and restore peace, which was disrupted by his own double-engine government," he said adding the violence in that state resulted in the loss of over 250 lives and the displacement of over 70,000 people.
This protest was attended by high-profile leaders of the Opposition INDIA bloc.
Prominent leaders such as Nagaland Congress MP Supongmeren Jamir, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Kanhaiya Kumar, Varun Chowdhry, Girish Chodankar, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, and CPI General Secretary D. Raja, among others, addressed the gathering.
Former Manipur Chief Minister Ibobi Singh, sitting Congress MP (Inner Manipur) Bimol Akoijam, and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President Keisham Meghachandra also addressed the gathering.
10 Kuki MLAs ask PM for direct routing of funds to hill districts ‘discriminated against’ by Biren govt
In a memorandum to Modi, the MLAs including 7 from BJP alleged Biren govt 'failed to even ensure supply of life saving drugs as it dances to diktats of radicalised Valley groups'.
The Kuki MLAs also held a silent sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar Tuesday, wearing masks to demonstrate how their voices have been muted.
In the memorandum submitted on 1 December, the MLAs have also sought an audience with the PM to “hear our people’s voice and better appreciate the situation from our perspective”.
The memorandum reportedly signed by Letpao Haokip, Paolienlal Haokip, LM Khaute, Letzamang Haokip, Chinlunthang, Kimneo Haokip Hangshing, Vungzagin Valte, Nemcha Kipgen, Ngursanglur Sanate and Haokholet Kipgen.
