Government is working in accordance with the 'Dharma' written in the Constitution of India: Rajnath Singh

 "Our Constitution is not work of any political party," Defence Minister and Deputy Leader of Lok Sabha Rajnath Singh said. 

Congress fielded Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for the crucial debate.

"In the struggle of crores of Indians, in their strength to battle the toughest situations, and in their hope of justice from the country, the flame of our Constitution is burning. 

I have understood that our Constitution is a protective shield that keeps the countrymen safe, it's a shield of justice, unity and freedom of expression. What's saddening is that my friends from the ruling party, who talk big, have made all possible attempts to break their protective shield," she claimed. 

"...We the people of India adopted the Constitution on 26 November 1949...I heartily congratulate this House and all the citizens of the country on the occasion of completion of 75 years of adoption of the Constitution... 

I can say that our Constitution paves the way for nation building by touching all aspects of social, economic, political and cultural life...".

Rajnath Singh said the contribution of several leaders in the making of the Constitution was deliberately ignored and hit out at the Congress, asserting that a particular party always tried to "hijack and appropriate" the framing of the Constitution.

The Lok Sabha took up a two-day 'Discussion on the glorious journey of 75 years of the Constitution of India' on Friday. Rajya Sabha will take up the same debate on Monday and Tuesday, Dec 16 and 17.

 

"The contribution of several leaders in the making of Constitution was deliberately ignored", Rajnath Singh said. 

"Thoughts of leaders such as Madan Mohan Malviya, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh, Veer Savarkar have strengthened Constitution," the senior lawmaker said. 

Rajnath Singh also referred to Emergency how a dissenting judgement made Justice Khanna to pay a big price.  

"About 75 years ago, the constituent assembly completed the process of making a Constitution for the newly-independent India. After around three years of rigorous debate and deliberation, we got our Constitution. 

The Constitution created by the constituent assembly was not just an official document but it was an expression of will of the people," the Minister said.

Speaking in Lok Sabha during discussion on the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said:  

"A few people from the bereaved families of Sambhal had come to meet us. There were two children among them - Adnan and Uzair. One of them was my son's age and the other was younger, 17 years of age. Their father was a tailor. The tailor had just one dream - that he would get his children educated, ...This dream and hope was instilled in his heart by the Constitution of India...".   

But she lamented that - "The Police shot their father dead. The 17-year-old Adnan told me that he would grow up to be a doctor and realise his father's dream".
