Priyanka Gandhi makes a statement with 'Palestine' bag in Parliament
A photo of Priyanka Gandhi toting around a bag emblazoned with 'Palestine' on Parliament premises was shared on social media by Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed.
BJP leader Dr Anirban Ganguly says, "Congress is the new Muslim League. Priyanka Gandhi is neither well informed, nor is she educated. She is absolutely unaware of the geopolitcal landscape...
Right from Pt Nehru to Priyanka Gandhi, they have always shown their anti-Hindu mindset. They never said anything for the persecuted minorities in Bangladesh.
Her carrying the Palestine bag to the Parliament is nothing but the Muslim League agenda...",
"Priyanka Gandhi brought 'Palestine bag'. What message does she want to convey? She didn't say a word on violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.
Leaders of her party didn't find it important to raise the voice of Hindus.
She wants to make a fashion statement with her 'Palestine bag', this shows the mindset of Congress," says BJP MP Anurag Thakur .
"The striking accessory featured emblems symbolising solidarity with Palestinians, including a watermelon — a long-recognised motif of resistance in the region", says a report in 'India Today'.
Priyanka Gandhi's gesture comes days after she was seen sporting a black-and-white keffiyeh (a traditional Palestinian scarf) during a meeting with Palestine embassy charge d'affaires Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer.
The meeting, held at her Delhi home, saw Jazer congratulating Gandhi on her election victory from Kerala’s Wayanad. During the discussion, the Palestinian diplomat told the Congress leader that India needs to take a leadership role in advocating a ceasefire in Gaza and aiding in the war-torn strip’s reconstruction.
Gandhi has been outspoken about her criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza. In October last year, she accused Israel of violating international law amid its military operations in Gaza. She has also slammed the Modi government for not doing more to broker peace.
Earlier this year, she condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's actions, calling the war in Gaza “barbaric” and urging countries worldwide to denounce what she described as “genocidal actions.”
“It is the moral responsibility of every right-thinking individual, including all those Israeli citizens who do not believe in hatred and violence, and every government in the world to condemn the Israeli government's genocidal actions and force them to stop,” Gandhi had said in an X post in July.
On Vijay Diwas ... Priyanka Gandhi makes a zero hour point ... applauds her grand mom Indira Gandhi's "leadership"; flags off attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh
Dec 16th is the Vijay Diwas.
India's historic victory led to the liberation of Bangladesh.
Vijay Diwas commemorates the Pakistan military's surrender to Indian forces.
On the momentous day, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra raised a zero hour point in Lok Sabha and said:
"First of all, I want to salute the brave soldiers who fought for us in the war of 1971. Whatever was happening in Bangladesh, no one was listening to the voice of the people of Bangladesh, our Bengali brothers and sisters.
Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister at that time, I want to salute her. She showed courage in the most difficult situations and showed such leadership that made the country victorious..."
She also said:
"The first issue I want to discuss is that this government should raise its voice against the atrocities committed against the Hindu and Christian minorities in Bangladesh, it should hold talks with them and take their support.
The second issue is that today, a picture has been taken down from the headquarters of the Army in which the Pakistani Army is surrendering in front of the Indian Army...
"Today is Vijay Diwas. I want to salute the brave soldiers who fought for us in the war of 1971."
