Both Houses of Parliament adjourned till 1400 hours.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh says, “Congress party is the biggest sinner for disrespecting Babasaheb. The whole family took the Bharat Ratna and didn’t give it to Babasaheb… Congress party should fast and take a vow of silence to atone for their sins..”.
Newly elected Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma from Haryana said - “Congress defeated Babasaheb twice. They disrespected him when they were in power for 60 years
. They distorted Amit Shah’s statement and not letting the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha function. They should be ashamed that they are doing politics in the name of Babasaheb.”
Members of Parliament from both sides - the ruling BJP and the Opposition staged separate protest in Parliament premises on Thursday.
The BJP lawmakers alleged the Congress party of insulting Dr B R Ambedkar while the Congress and other opposition MPs have claimed that Home Minister Amit Shah showed disrespect to the chairman of the Drafting Committee of Constituent Assembly while he was speaking in Rajya Sabha on the 75 years of Indian Constitution. Shah has of course denied the charge.
The Bharat Ratna 'Jewel of India') is the highest civilian award in India. Instituted on 2 January 1954, the award is conferred in recognition of "exceptional service/performance of the highest order" without distinction of race, occupation, position or gender.
Jawaharlal Nehru took the award in 1955 when he was in office. Indira Gandhi also got it awarded on her during her stint as the PM in 1971.
Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister initially between 1966 and 1977 and later from 1980 and Oct 31, 1984 when she was assassinated. She is credited for leading India during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 when Pakistan was split and Bangladesh was created.
In contrast, Ambedkar was given the award only in 1990 when V P Singh was the Prime Minister.
Ambedkar was a social reformer, lawyer and a Dalit leader. He was India's first Law Minister.
Ambedkar also campaigned against the social discrimination of Dalits and the caste system. He was associated with the Dalit Buddhist movement after converting to Buddhism on 14 October 1956.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate says, "This is the mail that 'X' has written to us, to Congress leaders - INC, Jairam Ramesh, me and others.
In the mail, they say that the Ministry of Home Affairs & Information and Broadcasting Ministry have written to them that the video of Amit Shah be removed because it violates the law of India. Which law of India is being violated?
Twitter has made it clear that they are not doing it because they the protect Right to Express but they wanted to inform us about this under transparency. What is Amit Shah scared of? What is he trying to hide?
