PM Modi will have to defend BJP, his Govt on Constitution debate as well as counter Priyanka Gandhi's "Sanghvidhan" (rule book of Sangh) jibe

On Dec 14, Saturday -- all eyes will be on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's power of debate in Lok Sabha when he replies on the two-day debate on 75 years of Indian Constitution.

The debate on Friday was initiated by BJP veteran Rajnath Singh who said a family and a party is always given credit for the Constitution but the reality is it is based on centuries old Bharat's civilisational values.

During the debate in Lok Sabha on Dec 13th, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of Congress delivering her maiden speech in the House tried to score some brownie points.

She flayed BJP for making the Constitution a "Sanghvidhaan" or Sangh's rule book.

Mentioning the Sambhal violence and Unnao rape case, she also accused the ruling government of spreading “fear”, and said the Constitution gave people courage to face the oppression and put up a fight.

All these will have to countered effectively, political observers say.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav voiced a renewed push for conducting the caste census. In reference to the Sambhal violence and other surveys of places of worship, he said those looking for temples under mosques don't want peace.

Earlier Rajnath Singh, hitting out at the Opposition, said that some people were taught to carry the Constitution in their pockets while the BJP bows to it.

He hit out at the Congress' attempts to overlook the collective contributions of many individuals and the Constitution's deep roots in India's cultural and civilizational values.
