Congress party's 'EVM manipulation' campaign loses steam after Trinamool Congress and Omar Abdullah of NC disapprove such notions

"I believe those questioning the EVM should go to the Election Commission and show proof if they have any," came a terse comment from Trinamool Congress party's virtual second in command Abhishek Banerjee.

The TMC MP and a powerful nephew (bhai po) of Mamata Banerjee told reporters in Parliament premises:

"The Election Commission has invited everyone, and I have been involved in elections for a long time. If proper checks are done during EVM randomisation, mock polls, and counting, I don’t think these allegations hold any substance. "

"If someone still believes the EVM can be hacked, they should demonstrate it to the Election Commission. Simply commenting isn’t enough," he said.

The BJP on Monday latched onto Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's sharp take on the Congress over a host of issues to attack Rahul Gandhi including on Electronic Voting Machines.

BJP MP Jagdambika Pal said: " Today, Omar Abdullah and TMC's Abhishek Banerjee of the (INDIA) alliance have challenged what Congress and Samajwadi Party have said on EVMs. EC has called political parties many times on this.

It is clear that be Congress, Samajwadi Party or DMK should apologise..."

"Leadership is not earned and not demanded. You have to have the qualities of a leader. You cannot impose yourself," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.

He said the National Conference leader has conveyed his message bluntly to Gandhi due to the conduct of the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.

On 'One Nation One Election', TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, said -

"Elections were held in 7 phases in West Bengal in 2024 and in 8 phases in 2021 assembly elections...You are conducting elections in 7-8 phases. How can elections be held for 140 crore people at once? This is about taking away the rights of the people....The right that the people have to vote 3-4 times in 5 years, has not been given by BJP, Congress or TMC. This right has been given to the 140 crore people of the country by the constitution of the country".

"So this is a matter of changing the constitution. If I vote 3-4 times in 5 years, then the accountability of the government will remain...So this is a bill that will take away the rights of the people...As long as there is opposition, we will not let this bill pass," he said.

On some INDI alliance bloc members suggesting West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee as the INDIA bloc leader,

Abhishek Banerjee, told news persons:

-- "INDIA alliance will sit and discuss this. She is the senior-most. This is her third term as the Chief Minister and she has also been a Union Minister before as well.

So there should be a detailed discussion regarding this...No party should be treated small. TMC is the only party in the INDIA alliance that has defeated BJP as well as Congress. This shows its strength...".
