Two CMs Biren and Lalduhoma may be unhappy !! Ex Home Secretary and Amit Shah's trusted babu Ajay Kumar Bhalla appointed as new Governor of Manipur :: Gen V K Singh goes to Mizoram

It's a shake up probably Home Minister Amit Shah wanted to make earlier.

There is a feeling Chief Ministers of both Manipur N Biren Singh and Mizoram Lalduhoma may not be quite pleased.

Both the Chief Ministers  Biren Singh (BJP) and Lalduhoma (ZPM) might have been put under some leash.

Former #Home Secretary and #AmitShah's trusted babu #AjayKumarBhalla appointed as new #Governor of #Manipur

Bhalla is a retired IAS officer of the 1984 batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He served as Home Secretary of India for around five years till August 2024.

Ajay Kumar Bhalla hails from Jalandhar in Punjab.

Former #Army Chief General V K Singh- also a former Union Minister and Ghaziabad MP - is new #Mizoram Governor

While Biren Singh has been unable to control/check the violence in Manipur that started in May 2023, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma (despite holding a constitutional post) made certain weird remarks lately vis-a-vis 'Greater Zo Land' and so on.

His statement in September 2024 in the US --- "We have been unjustly divided, forced to exist under three different governments in three different countries, and this is something we can never accept," -- left many people surprised.

"We are fortunate that we are still connected through our lands and that there are no pretenders to insert themselves in our midst and cause division – this truly is a blessing from God. I, therefore, sincerely urge you to engage your hearts and minds towards the concept of unity for our people and to continue to work together in pursuance of this goal," Lalduhoma also stated.

A communique from Rashtrapati Bhawan said - Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Bihar appointed as Governor of Kerala.

Arif Mohammed Khan, Governor of Kerala appointed as Governor of Bihar.

Bhalla and Arif Mohammad Khan

The decision to move Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan is significant.

He has been at loggerheads with the Marxists-led state government over a range of issues.

Meanwhile, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who held the highest office in Bihar, has been made the Kerala Governor.

President Droupadi Murmu approved the appointments. She also accepted the resignation of Raghbuar Das as the Governor of Odisha and appointed Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati in his place. Dr Kambhampati was the Governor of Mizoram before this.

Former Army Chief, General Dr Vijay Kumar Singh has been appointed as Mizoram Governor and will succeed Dr Kambhampati in office.

This is the first time General VK Singh will be discharging his duties as the Governor of a state.

In 2023, Arif Mohammad Khan defended RSS chief's remarks on Muslims.

"Bhagwat only emphasised that our social behaviour should be in resonance with the Constitution, which is based on equality of all sections and does not believe in superiority or inferiority," he had said.

In an interview, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief had said, "The simple truth is this -- Hindustan should remain Hindustan. There is no harm to the Muslims living in Bharat today.... Islam has nothing to fear. But at the same time, Muslim must abandon their boisterous rhetoric of supremacy."

Bihar goes to polls October/November in 2025 while state assembly elections in Kerala are due by April-May 2026.
