It could have been a big day for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Friday the 13th of December was to be a big day for the Congress too. But by midday, headlines shifted elsewhere. Even Narendra Modi's Mahakumbh visit fell second fiddle.
It was Allu Arjun and Hyderabad Police's wildfire that overshadowed everything else in India - especially Priyanka Gandhi's speech.
Telangana - of course is a Congress-ruled state. Therefore when all attention were supposed to be on Priyanka's speech in Lok Sabha -- that several Congress leaders and 'sycophants' lauded; Hyderabad Police landed at the residence of Telugu superstar Allu Arjun to arrest him.
The case was related to a stampede in which a woman was killed on December 4 during the premiere of Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule.
"Law will take its own due course, and nobody will intervene in the investigation of the case," Revanth Reddy said in an official statement.
Amid the controversy of police overapplying the law and trying to cover up for their own lapses, it grabbed all the attention.
All news cameras turned towards Hyderabad as a five-hour intense drama first saw Allu Arjun being arrested, then sent to 14-day judicial custody and ultimately the Telangana High Court granting him interim bail.
Politicians of all hues in the twin Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana jumped into action in Hyderabad.
Was it a bad start then for Priyanka ?
The BJP, Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSRCP and K Chandrashekar Rao's BRS criticised the Hyderabad Police action and attacked the Revanth Reddy-led government.
Union Minister of the BJP, Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that Allu Arjun deserved better treatment, while BRS Working President KT Rama Rao condemned the Congress government's actions, accusing them of treating the star like a "common criminal".
Rahul Gandhi found her speech better than his maiden speech. "It was a wonderful speech. Better than my maiden speech," he said.
Even a good debater by any standard, Shashi Tharoor (who missed Congress presidentship because the dynasty had backed oldie Mallikarjun Kharge) heaped praise on Wayanad lawmaker.
"Hugely impressed by Priyanka Gandhi's maiden speech in Parliament. Loved her taking down BJP's obsession with Nehru by asking them to defend what was happening in the present".
The ecosystem too was doing their job pretty well !!
