'Edited video' row over Amit Shah's speech in Lok Sabha turns bigger and gory -- :: Congress alleges some of its leaders received 'notices' from X

The Congress party has alleged that some of its leaders received notices from social media platform X, formerly Twitter, for sharing the edited video.

The notice was issued on the request of the Union Home Ministry, it is being claimed.

The X has not yet taken action but the platform, according to sources, stated it would act upon receiving a legal request from law enforcement agencies.

The controversy was kicked off after Amit Shah said his speech has been misinterpreted and a doctored video has been circulated.

The Congress shared a video clip of Shah’s speech on social media, alleging that he had insulted Dr B R Ambedkar. Shah’s remarks, where he said, "It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar... If they had taken God's name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven in all seven lives," were highlighted by the opposition.

Shah countered the opposition claims saying the video was cropped and edited to misrepresent his statements.

"What the Congress has done is extremely condemnable. BJP leaders presented facts showing that the Congress is anti-Ambedkar, anti-Constitution, and anti-reservation," the Home Minister stated.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Shah said, "The BJP will examine all legal options.

Whatever legal action can be taken inside and outside Parliament, all possibilities will be considered."

"I come from a party and society that can never insult Dr B R Ambedkar even in dreams," says Amit Shah countering Opposition demands for his apology and resignation

"They (Congress) distorted my remarks (on Dr BR Ambedkar) and presented them in front of the public. I urge everyone to listen to my entire remark, it will clarify everything. I come from a party and the society that can never insult Dr BR Ambedkar even in the dreams," he said.

Amit Shah accused the Congress of adopting a pattern of misrepresenting statements by BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to create uproar and mislead the public.

Referring to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's demand for his resignation, Shah said in a lighter vein, "If Kharge ji finds joy in it, I may resign. But the reality is that he will have to stay in opposition for 15 more years."
