Seeds sown by first PM Nehru in changing Constitution was followed up by Indira Gandhi who even overturned SC decision, he said. PM said the same trend continued under Rajiv Gandhi and referred to the now infamous Shah Bano judgement by Supreme Court and how Congress regime had favoured the "fundamentalists" and did not help a needy woman.
"From 1947 to 1952, there was no elected government in the country. There was a selected government back then because the elections hadn't been conducted yet.
Before 1952, there was no Rajya Sabha and elections were not even held in states... During that time, former PM Pandit JL Nehru wrote a letter to the chief ministers that if Constitution comes in the way it should be changed," says PM

Replying to the debate on Glorious years of 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India, PM Narendra Modi said in Lok Sabha that "India is not only world's largest democracy... It is also the Mother of Democracy.
"For all of us, for all citizens and for all democracy-loving citizens across the world, this is a moment of great pride...", he said.
Similarly, he said the GST has helped in ensuring One Country, One Tax and that means the GST helped in achieving economic unity.
PM said his government also introduced One Country, One Ration Card. He also cited the example of One Nation, One Health Card and said on this Ayushman card has helped a lot.
He also mentioned 'One Nation, One Creed'. Similarly, he said united efforts are made for infrastructure development.
The country should not have Digital Haves and Digital Have-nots.
Narendra Modi says, "Era has changed. We do not want haves and haves not situation in digital sector. That is why, we proudly say that the reason behing Digital India success story is that we tried to democratise technology..."
"That I got elected as Prime Minister three times would not have been possible without this Constitution", Modi said.
