Constitution 75 years debate boomerangs on Congress ... "PM bored me", says Priyanka :::: Modi cites half a dozen instances including Emergency and Rahul tearing the Ordinance

Constitution 75 years debate boomeranged on Congress on Saturday, Dec 14th as Prime Minister Narendra Modi ripped the grand old party and cited over half a dozen instances wherein Congress party had violated and shown disregard to the Constitution.

Modi, responding to the Constitution debate in Lok Sabha, said the Congress strangled democracy by turning the country into a 'jailhouse'.

Modi invoked the Emergency period to attack the Congress and the Gandhi family, saying the party strangled democracy by turning the country into a "jailhouse".

Modi turned the table on his opponents and proposed 11 resolutions before Parliament, including development for all and zero tolerance for corruption.

PM also cited Rahul Gandhi tearing the Ordinance that was passed by the Manmohan Singh cabinet.

He said during UPA-I, National Advisory Council was set up which worked as a body above the Union cabinet. He said the trend of showing utter disregard to Constitution started during Nehru's time and was carried on under Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and also the next generation.

"People who have not shown respect to their own party Constitution is talking about Indian Constitution," - says Modi

PM asserted that the Congress would never be able to wipe off the taint of the Emergency, a two-year period during which various civil liberties were curtailed.

He said Nehru became Prime Minister even when 12 state units had backed the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. PM also referred to the politics of Sonia Gandhi era when Sitaram Kesri was locked inside a bathroom and a coup was staged.

PM said:  "The Uniform Civil Code was not beyond the attention of the Constituent Assembly.

The Constituent Assembly discussed UCC at length and after the debate, they decided that it would be good if whichever government gets elected takes a decision on it and implements UCC in the country…

"The Supreme Court has also said many times that UCC should be brought in the country… Keeping in mind the spirit of the Constitution and the makers of the Constitution, we are working with full force for a Secular Civil Code."

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra later told reporters: "PM Narendra Modi did not speak anything new or constructive. He absolutely bored me...

I thought he would say something new. He spoke about 11 hollow promises. If he has zero tolerance towards corruption, he should at least hold a debate on Adani."
