The last rites were conducted with full state honours at Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat on Saturday morning after top leaders from across party lines flocked to pay their last respects to the architect of India's economic liberalisation.

Meanwhile, the Centre agreed to allocate space for a memorial of the former Prime Minister after a war of words broke out between the BJP and the Congress. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge had written to the Prime Minister and Home Minister, requesting that Singh’s last rites be performed at a place where a memorial could be built for him.
Shortly after the Cabinet meeting on Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah communicated to Mallikarjun Kharge and the family of late former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh that the Government would allocate space for the memorial, according to a statement.
It further said that cremation and other formalities could happen because a trust had to be formed and space had to be allocated to it.
Sharmistha Mukherjee criticised the party for demanding a separate memorial space for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while failing to convene a Working Committee meeting to condole her father's death.
"When baba passed away, Congress didn't even bother to call a CWC for a condolence meeting. A senior leader told me it's not done for Presidents. That's utter rubbish," Sharmistha Mukherjee said.
She further revealed that her father's diaries documented how, after former President KR Narayanan's death, such a meeting had been convened, with Pranab Mukherjee himself drafting the condolence message.
She, however, said that former PM Manmohan Singh deserves a separate memorial space.
