The Ministry of External Affairs said that no political clearance was sought from or given by the government to MP Prajwal Revanna, who travelled to Germany on a diplomatic passport.

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister and JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda, went to Frankfurt, Germany on April 26. He left the country amid allegations of sexual abuse levelled against him.

The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday, May 2, said that Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing probe on allegations of sexual abuse, did not seek political clearance for his Germany trip.

Addressing the weekly press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "No political clearance was either sought from or issued by MEA in respect of the travel of the said MP to Germany. Obviously, no visa note was issued either.

"No visa is required for diplomatic passport holders to travel to Germany. The Ministry has also not issued any visa note for any other country for the said MP...Yes, he travelled on a diplomatic passport."

Prajwal Revanna, who is seeking another term from Hassan in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, is in the middle of a controversy after some explicit videos went viral on social media purportedly showing him. However, Revanna has claimed that the viral videos were morphed and also filed a complaint in this regard via his polling agent.

The Karnataka government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged sex scandal involving Hassan MP. On Thursday, the SIT issued a lookout notice against him at all immigration points across the world.

Revanna, who was supposed to appear before the SIT today, filed a plea with a sessions court in Bengaluru seeking anticipatory bail.

Janata Dal Secular's legislator Suraj Revanna called the 'obscene video' case against his brother and sitting Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna a "conspiracy".

He said those who are not able to stand HD Revanna's clout in Hassan are behind all these.

"Right now I do not want to talk about Prajwal Revanna. A government-constituted SIT is investigating the case. But it can be said that this is a conspiracy. For the last few decades, HD Revanna has been the most popular hero of this part (Hassan). People who can't stand it are doing all these things," he told reporters today.

"The truth will be known to the people of the country after the completion of the SIT investigation," he added.

A political row has erupted over Prajwal Revanna, who has been charged by the Karnataka Police in the "obscene video" case, "having left the country" and claims of some opposition parties that he had gone to a European country. Congress and AIMIM are among the political parties who have claimed that Mr Revanna has gone to Germany.

Suraj Revanna further said that there is no confusion among the JDS workers in Hassan district and meetings are being held with JDS workers to discuss election-related issues.

"It is true that I met Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar regarding the development works of Hassan constituency. But, that was in January, I have not even been able to go to Bangalore as I have been involved in election campaigning for the past one and a half months," he said.

Meanwhile, HD Revanna, who is also an accused in the case, moved the People's Representative Court in Bengaluru seeking anticipatory bail after SIT's notice and imminent arrest in the sexual harassment case registered in Holenarasipura, Hassan.

India registers strong protests with China against their illegal attempts to "alter facts" in connection with construction activities in the Shaksgam Valley.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal says, India considers Shaksgam Valley to be its territory and it has never accepted the so-called China-Pakistan boundary agreement of 1963 through which Pakistan unlawfully attempted to cede the area to China.

He says, India further reserves the right to take necessary measures to safeguard its interests.
