West Bengal will play a crucial role in the new maritime era, says PM Modi ::::: "Progress made in 12 years shows how changes can be achieved when policy is clear and direction is right"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "West Bengal will play a crucial role in the new maritime era that India is embarking on today. It has the potential for ports, the potential for industries, the talent, the skills, and the ability to take the maritime economy to new heights.

"I am confident that in the coming years, West Bengal will become a vital hub for India's blue economy, maritime manufacturing, logistics, and coastal development. India has always considered the sea a medium of cooperation, but India also knows that strength is equally essential for maintaining peace," he said on the occasion of Tri Commissioning ceremony of INS Agray, INS Dunagiri and INS Sanshodhak in Kolkata.

"Security is essential for safeguarding prosperity, and self-reliance is essential for building the future. Today, INS Agray, INS Dunagiri, and INS Sanshodhak joined the Indian Navy, symbolizing this spirit."

"They symbolise an India that recognizes its potential in the 21st century, believes in its capabilities, and is constantly moving forward with renewed confidence and determination, brimming with speed, energy, and resolve before the world...", PM said.

Modi also said:

"Today India is strengthening its entire maritime ecosystem. Therefore, India is modernising its ports, creating new capacity, building new connectivity, expanding river waterways, and developing a multi-modal logistics network.

Initiatives like Sagar Mala are part of this broader vision. This is reducing trade costs, stimulating industries, and creating new opportunities in coastal areas...

"Defence equipment manufactured in India is now reaching more than 80 countries around the world. Much remains to be done on the journey towards self-reliance. In my opinion, this is just the beginning."

"But the progress made in the last twelve years shows how significant changes can be achieved in a country when policy is clear, when direction is right, and when we work together...", he said.

Modi further maintained:

"... There was a time when India was recognised as one of the world's largest defense importers. This dependence has posed both strategic and security challenges.

After forming the government in 2014, we resolved to change the situation. To this end, major policy reforms were implemented. Self-reliance in the defence sector has been prioritized.

As a result of these efforts, new possibilities have emerged for design, manufacturing, and export in the defense sector. Until 2014, the country's total defense production was around Rs 40,000 crore.

"Today, it has increased to approximately Rs 1,80,000 crore. While defence production in the country has grown rapidly, our defence exports are also growing at an unprecedented pace.

By 2014, India exported defense products worth approximately Rs 700 crore. Today, this figure has risen to nearly Rs 40,000 crore...", he said.

"Let us take a pledge: we will not limit yoga to just one day. We will make yoga a part of our lives, part of our families, and we will make it a part of our coming generations".

In his speech, PM Modi was heard emphasising the health benefits of Yoga multiple times. He said that practising yoga regularly helps prevent a decline in human potential as people age.

"When we speak of Yoga for healthy ageing, it means that we can work to ensure that age does not reduce human potential. Yoga can help human life aspire to constant growth," the PM was heard saying in the address.

Along with emphasising the health benefits of yoga, the Prime Minister also hailed Bengali saints like Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Swami Vivekananda for introducing yoga to the world.

"It is very special to be in Bengal today on the occasion of Yoga Day. The sacred land of Bengal, where saints like Ramakrishna Paramhansa descended, Swami Vivekananda introduced yoga to the entire world from here," the PM said.

He also said that the collective experience of practising yoga on the land of Bengal, from where it has achieved new heights, provides a unique spiritual experience.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by the West Bengal Governor, RN Ravi, and the Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, in Kolkata. Before him, both of them addressed the crowd and spoke about the benefits of yoga.

Bangladesh on Saturday issued a nationwide security alert over possible unrest ::: Awami League has so far made no announcement, but party activists likely to hoist national and AL flags on June 23

In fear of unrest, Dhaka issues nationwide security alert ahead of Awami League's anniversary

Law enforcement agencies have been directed to enforce maximum vigilance during the next few days and take all necessary measures to prevent any acts of sabotage, unrest, or attempts to disrupt public order surrounding the occasion, home minister Salahuddin Ahmed said

Bangladesh on Saturday issued a nationwide security alert over possible unrest ahead of the founding anniversary of the now-disbanded Awami League, the party of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The party was disbanded by the  interim government after Hasina's government was toppled on August 5, 2024, following a violent student-led street protest dubbed the July Uprising.

"We have intelligence information that Awami League may try to create unrest and instability in the country surrounding June 23," Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said.

Law enforcement agencies have been directed to enforce maximum vigilance during the next few days and take all necessary measures to prevent any acts of sabotage, unrest, or attempts to disrupt public order surrounding the occasion, he said.

Ahmed also said that the government is closely monitoring the situation, and the incumbent government does not consider the Awami League a political party and instead treats it as a "mafia organisation".

Earlier on Friday, in an internal communication to its field-level offices and units, the police headquarters said that the leaders and activists belonging to the Awami League might try to hoist party flags at local offices and bring out processions carrying banners to mark its founding anniversary in different parts of the country.

It added that such activities could trigger confrontations with activists of other political outfits, especially members of the student-led National Citizen Party, creating a risk of deterioration in law and order.

However, Dhaka Metropolitan Police ruled out any specific security threat but said they remained on high alert.

The Awami League has so far issued no notification on their online platforms, but some media reports suggest that the party activists were directed to hoist national and party flags at party offices and stage flash street processions.

US Vice Prez Vance says --- Releasing the full text of its MoU with Iran delayed because Pakistan and Qatar lack freedom of Press

Pakistan doesn't have press freedom: Vance on delay in releasing Iran deal terms

US Vice President JD Vance said the US delayed releasing the full text of its MoU with Iran partly because Pakistan and Qatar lack freedom of the press like America. Vance's remarks come as another major embarrassment for Pakistan.

There seems to be no end to embarrassment for Pakistan regarding the US-Iran peace deal, which it helped broker along with Qatar.

In a podcast, US Vice President JD Vance said the delay in releasing the details of its MoU with Iran was partly due to press freedom standards in Pakistan.

Even as US President Donald Trump announced the interim peace deal on June 15, the official text of the MoU was released two days later.

The US Vice President, speaking in the podcast 'Interesting Times with Ross Douthat', explained that Washington took time to release the details due to concerns over transparency.

"We actually wanted to get it out. I think part of the misalignment here is that in the Pakistani and Qatari systems, they don't quite have the First Amendment and freedom of the press," Vance said.

Steve Witkoff, Trump's special envoy and point man for West Asia, led the American negotiating team in back-channel talks with Iranian interlocutors. He played a central role in working out the framework deal and worked closely with Pakistani mediators to narrow differences between the two sides.

Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and a former senior White House adviser, was also part of the broader American effort in an informal role, using his West Asia contacts from Trump's first term to help the negotiations along with Witkoff and Vance.

On the Iranian side, Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father as Iran's supreme leader, played a decisive but largely behind-the-scenes part in the peace talks.

He backed direct negotiations with the US and approved the memorandum of understanding, despite reservations, after receiving assurances that Iran's national interests and regional allies would be protected.

Pezeshkian emerged as the public face of Tehran's diplomatic push, guiding the negotiations through Iran's Supreme National Security Council and securing support from the country's top leadership before signing the memorandum with the US.

Ali Larijani, the secretary of the powerful Supreme National Security Council, was the de facto leader of Iran after the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28 until his own killing in mid-March in US-Israeli strikes.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi became one of Iran's most influential foreign policy voices during the conflict with the US.

He played a key role in managing Iran's ties with global powers, neighbouring countries and international institutions, and was Iran's main representative in discussions with Pakistan's mediating team. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, seen as a hardliner, was also a key figure and served as Iran's chief negotiator in the first direct talks with the US in decades, held in Islamabad in early April.

"It feels as if West Bengal has been freed from its chains," - says PM Modi in address after BJP's Bengal win ::: "When attempts were made to include the whole of Bengal in Pakistan, Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee raised his voice"

"It feels as if Bengal has been freed from its chains," -- Modi

"Poriborton uplifted people's spirits" : PM

It was evident how much change a single vote and an election could bring.

The Prime Minister extended his greetings to the people of the state on West Bengal Day.

In his first address after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s historic victory in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took sharp jibes at the Trinamool Congress and other Opposition parties, while crediting the Suvendu Adhikari-led government with revitalising the state after what he described as decades of decline under previous administrations.

"There is a new freshness in the air of Bengal. It feels as if Bengal has been freed from its chains," he said while addressing a gathering in Hooghly district.

He also commended the ongoing efforts towards cleanliness, emphasising that it remained essential for the progress of the state.

"Work is progressing at a superfast pace to address the damage and shortcomings created by the Left and the TMC over decades in Bengal. As part of this effort, foundation stones have been laid for projects worth hundreds of crores of rupees," he said.

Modi said: "... Observing West Bengal Day is not merely about commemorating a date but about honoring our entire history and paying tribute to Bengal’s millennia-old heritage.

It is essential to repeatedly impress upon the younger generation the significance of this day and help them understand the events of that era.

"When attempts were being made to include the whole of Bengal in Pakistan, the Congress had capitulated to the conspirators, and at that critical juncture Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee raised his voice against it...

"As a result, those who sought to divide Bengal realized it would not be possible, and thus West Bengal remained with India, and the same spirit that saved it was needed to carry it forward after independence," he said.

Thousands of Hindus march in Dhaka protesting "desecration" of a Lord Ram image ::: Hindus want to build a Ram temple one by one in all 64 districts

Chaos in Dhaka as Hindus hold massive protest, raise Jai Shri Ram chants

Thousands of Hindus marched in Dhaka protesting the alleged desecration of a Lord Ram image and the halting of a statue project. The protests renewed focus on minority rights concerns in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.

The fresh tension in Bangladesh comes days after the construction of an 81-foot-tall statue of Lord Ram in Palashbari in northern Gaibandha district was put on hold.

The Sri Sri Radha Govinda Temple committee, which is behind the project, claimed the authorities received threats from Islamist groups. The incident has again brought to the forefront concerns over minority rights in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.

Massive protests erupted across Bangladesh's Dhaka over the alleged desecration of a picture of Lord Ram by radical Islamists opposing the construction of the tallest statue of the deity in Rangpur.

With the construction now halted, thousands of Hindus in Bangladesh held a torchlight procession in Dhaka and raised 'Jai Shri Ram' chants on Friday, demanding the arrest of those behind the alleged desecration.

While a case has been filed, no arrests have been made so far.

On Friday, several Hindu organisations and students gathered at the key Shahbagh intersection and marched to the National Press Club. The protest call was given by the Hindu Mahajot. The outfit also organised a human chain in front of the National Press Club.

Another section staged a protest near the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) building.

In Rangpur, there was a minor scuffle after the police stopped Hindus from holding a demonstration.

The protesters claimed that an Islamist mob desecrated an image of Lord Ram by placing a shoe on it during a demonstration in Gaibandha earlier this month.

Accusing the Tarique Rahman-led BNP government of inaction, the protesters issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding the arrest of those involved. If not met, the Hindu community warned of further rallies and protests. A memorandum will also be submitted to the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Saturday.

Separately, the Hindu Mahajot asserted that if the construction of the Lord Ram statue was not allowed to resume, they would build a Ram temple one by one in all the 64 districts of Bangladesh.

The statue of Lord Ram was being built as part of a temple complex at Palashbari. Almost 80% of the work has been completed.

The proposed project, estimated to cost around 22 crore Bangladesh taka (around Rs 15.6 crore), also includes a 50-foot statue of Lord Krishna and a 30-foot statue of Lord Shiva.

"TRUTH, RESOURCES AND NAGA IDENTITY" ::::: Underground Federal Govt of Nagaland (FGN) red-flags Oil Exploration, Yoga and Census

"The Government of India has installed and patronized individuals who, while outwardly professing commitment to the Naga cause, have repeatedly revealed their true intentions through policies and proposals that place personal, political, and financial interests above the rights and aspirations of the Naga people,"

--- the FGN/NNC said in a strongly worded statement.

The orgaisation - which has strong presence in Tenyimia region (the supposed stronghold and traditional bastion of regional party NPF) - objected to the the "directive issued by the Government of India" encouraging the observance of International Yoga Day on June 21 and said this "raises concerns among many Nagas regarding the gradual introduction of external cultural and religious influences into educational institutions and society".

NNC Founder - A Z Phizo

The FGN under the leadership of Zhopra Vero says: "While there can be no objection to activities aimed at promoting physical health and well-being, it must also be acknowledged that yoga has historical and philosophical roots in Hindu traditions.

"Therefore, care must be taken to ensure that such programmes remain voluntary and respectful of the religious convictions and cultural identity of all communities."

The NPF-BJP leadership under incumbent chief minister Neiphiu Rio has already under sharp attack by the pro-Solution body of militants, the NNPG (Kitovi) for signing the pact with Assam Govt and the Union Petroleum ministry.

The oil extraction is a major sensitive issue vis-a-vis the Naga political problem - perhaps awaiting an early solution pact essentially based on Framework Agreement of 2015 and the Agreed Position of 2017.

An argument has also been circulated by pro-Status quo club that the two agreements "cannot be implemented together or simultaneously".

During the stint of A K Mishra as the advisor - north east; an effort was made for making the stakeholders agree to a common draft. But such attempts too were sabotaged by direct and indirect patronage of vested interests in Kohima and their covert and overt coordinates and well-wishers.

"Even a meta-physical organisation in the name of church and religious sentiment kept on holding meetings in different places only to keep the matter pending and keep the much desired Solution at bay," says an informed source expressing total displeasure at the way things have been handled.

In one closed door meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly Nagaland CM Rio and Ministers and "let them go red-faced" urging them not to blame R N Ravi or A K Mishra.

The central government's argument has been - Do not blame the interlocutors and messengers;  they only follow Govt's policy stance and guidelines.

There have been strong objections to an early Solution from the NSCN-IM which raised the bogey of Naga Constitution and Flag - the twin demands which could never be entertained by any elected government in Delhi.

The FGN says:

"Every nation maintains a population census to determine demographic growth or decline. However, the proposed 16th Census of India, scheduled to be conducted in Nagaland from 1 July to 30 July 2026, must be viewed in its proper historical and political context.

"The NNC/FGN maintains that any census confined to the present political boundaries of Nagaland presents only a fragment of the Naga people and cannot be accepted as an accurate representation of the Naga nation as a whole.

CM Rio ::: So far, so good ::: Keeping all sides in Humour

"For decades, India and Myanmar (Burma) have divided Naga ancestral lands into separate administrative units without the consent of the Naga people and have incorporated them into the present State of Nagaland, the neighbouring states of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and parts of Myanmar.

Consequently, any attempt to enumerate Nagas solely within the boundaries of present-day Nagaland creates a misleading impression that the Nagas constitute only a small and marginal community.

"In reality, the Naga people inhabit territories across these artificial divisions, with their total population estimated to be around four million.

Therefore, the NNC/FGN views such exercises as contributing to a false narrative that portrays the Nagas as too few in number, too fragmented, and ultimately incapable of existing as a distinct nation".

The organisation drawing inspiration from the NNC and late legendary leader A Z Phizo also says:

"Notwithstanding these limitations, the NNC/FGN cautions against the malpractices and deliberate manipulation of figures that have been exhibited in the present so called “Nagaland State” over the decades by collaborators Naga People’s Convention (NPC) for political and material gains."

It also raises objections on certain matters like increasing the number of MLAs and insists that:

"The persistent presentation of inflated and inaccurate data to secure additional MLA seats, expand vote banks, or obtain greater financial allocations has seriously undermined the credibility of census records.

"Such practices contributed to the anomalous negative population growth recorded in the 2011 so called “Nagaland State” Census and, in many ways, tarnished the image of the Naga people before the wider world.

"Rather than reflecting the virtues of honesty and integrity for which the Nagas were once known, these distortions have projected an image of inconsistency and dishonesty.

The intentions behind such actions are transparently self-serving and demonstrate a complete disregard for the principles of honesty, integrity, and service to the community.

"The pursuit of wealth, status, and short-term political advantage derived from Indian resources has, for many, overshadowed the foundational values that once defined them as Nagas and Christians," the statement lamented.

The FGN also says:

"In their relentless quest to fill their coffers, accumulate political power, and please their masters in Delhi, many NPC leaders have inflicted immeasurable damage upon the historical rights of the Naga people and compromised the future of coming generations.

"For personal gain and temporary political relevance, they have bartered away principles that ought to have been safeguarded with utmost responsibility and sacrifice.

"Blinded by immediate gain and political power, these collaborators have knowingly or unknowingly welcomed foreign vices and destructive influences that have brought havoc to our society and contributed to its present moral and social paralysis," it said.

The statement also says that: "Although the Village Development Boards system was instituted with the noble intention of promoting grassroots participation and local development, over the years in pursuit of increased funding, supplies, and benefits, some VDBs and local institutions have reportedly resorted to enrolling and presenting inaccurate population figures.

Such distortions not only compromise the integrity of the census process but also weaken public trust in local institutions and encourage a culture where falsehood is rewarded at the expense of truth. Irrespective of the outcome of the proposed census, it must be clearly understood that the population figures recorded within the present political boundaries of Nagaland do not represent the total Naga population.

"The Naga people are not confined to the artificial boundaries imposed by external powers. The Naga population encompasses all Nagas living across the various territories and political divisions created without their consent".

"For Modi, citizens are “us”, not “they”. There is no third person in Modi’s Bharat - writes West Bengal Governor R N Ravi :::::: " Nehru ignored civilisational resilience and cultural continuum of Bharatiya society"

"Born in poverty, Modi has lived with its gross reality and subtle nuances, and knows how it degrades the human agency and compromises the material and moral self of the poor.

Poverty eradication for him is not merely a constitutional or political obligation but an emotional and moral imperative," writes West Bengal Governor R N Ravi.

In an article in Kolkata-based 'The Telegraph', the Governor says "While Nehru unsuccessfully sought to mitigate poverty through his socialist policies and State patronage, Modi creates an enabling environment for the poor so that they rise above poverty with a sense of dignity and self-enterprise."

Ravi, a former IPS officer and who took to writing columns post-retirement for a while, notes:

"There is a tendency to compare Modi with Nehru since he broke the first Prime Minister’s record that had stood for over half a century.

The comparison, however, is often confined to the prevailing state of the nation and the geopolitical situations then and now.

They miss the fundamental difference between them: their emotional orientation to the nation.

"Pandit Nehru as the first Prime Minister began the nation-building enterprise as if independent Bharat had started with a clean slate. He ignored the civilisational resilience and cultural continuum of Bharatiya Society.

"He (Nehru) sought to build a modern state inspired by British parliamentary democracy, European secularism, Soviet-style centralised planning and State-controlled development," says Ravi.

Ravi, who handled Naga peace talks and also served as Governor in Nagaland and Tamil Nadu, writes:

"Narendra Modi is the longest serving elected Prime Minister of Bharat. He recently beat the record of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He remains as strong as he was on day one and his undented popularity beats the conventional anti-incumbency logic.

"Many have been seeking to decode the secret of his success".

Ravi has been critical of Nehru and says,

"As if to overcome his sense of moral defeat at the communal partition of the country and spite Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Pandit Nehru courted the Muslims who had not migrated to Pakistan with demonstrative appeasement and took ostensible measures to distance himself from Hindu religious institutions.

"He (Nehru) seemed convinced that the long-enslaved people of Bharat, lacking in Western education and orientation, could not be trusted to undertake a modern enterprise.

"Using the inherited colonial institutions of governance, he tried to build a secular modern state on the foundation of European individualism and rationalism in a traditional and profoundly religious society with an integral view of life and creation; a view that held life sacred and believed that the individual and society existed in inseparable symbiosis."

The Governor maintains :

"The modern State that Pandit Nehru sought to build was at odds with the civilisational consciousness of Bharat.

"The dissonance between the modern secular State of Nehru and the civilisational society of Bharat generated unpredictable centrifugal social entropy turning diversities into differences.

People living for long in harmonious coexistence began seeking separation from each other.

"More and more linguistic, ethnic, tribal and communal states, districts and administrative councils were created to satisfy the increasing demands for exclusive identity-based homelands.

The number of castes and tribes multiplied in every census.

"The nation was put in a centrifuge. Hindu religious institutions became suspect and textbooks were purged of all references to the epics of Bharat," he laments.

Ravi says, "He (Nehru) did not resonate with the civilisational consciousness of Bharat and could not connect with its ethos.

"Modi, on the other hand, is a manifestation of the civilisational soul of Bharat. His unique personality has been forged by the circumstances of the life that he chose from the days of his youth.

He is the only Prime Minister who, as an RSS pracharak, has lived in at least one village for one night in all 800 districts of the country.

"His (Modi's) intimate and granular understanding of the socio-cultural-economic and geographic landscape of the country and the travails and tribulations of the ordinary people in their everyday life is unparalleled.

"His parivarbodh (familyhood) for Bharat — that all the citizens of the country are children of Bharat Mata and constitute one family — is an everyday lived reality for him."

The Governor also says:

"Unlike Nehru who governed Bharat with State institutions, Modi leads the nation like running a family with the cooperation, effort and trust of all the citizens and for all."

Brazil’s World Cup campaign gathers momentum as it wins 3-0 against Haiti ::::: Disappointment was an injury to Barcelona winger Raphinha, who was forced off in the opening 45 minutes

Brazil is hot favourite of many fans across the globe.

Brazil’s World Cup campaign in 2026 gathered some momentum in their second match against a weak team Haiti after the stodgy performance against Morocco.

However, the critics would say -- they remain a shadow of the vintage side of yore.

Matheus Cunha found the back of the net twice in the opening half.

Vinicus Jr scored the third -- after which Carlo Ancelotti’s side seemed more focussed on conserving energy and seeing out the clock than finding more goals.

It is a decision that may come back to haunt them if goal difference is what separates them from Morocco at the top of Group C.

Haiti are the first team to be eliminated from 2026 World Cup. Cunha's second was a fine finish after Vinicius Jr put him through and he rifled a strike into the top corner nine minutes before half-time.

Vinicius Jr then got in on the act in first-half stoppage time after former West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta played a brilliant ball over the top and the Real Madrid star calmly slotted home past the goalkeeper for his second goal of the tournament.

The only disappointment for Ancelotti's side was an injury to Barcelona winger Raphinha, who was forced off in the opening 45 minutes and replaced by Bournemouth's Rayan.

Brazil keeper Alisson did need to pull off a fine second-half save when Ricardo Ade rose to divert a corner on target but the result was never in doubt.

Teenager Endrick was denied a goal on his World Cup debut with the offside flag going up after he netted late on.

Rahul Gandhi had his birthday on June19th ::: Politics plays up ... for 2029 ::: Desperate Congress projects Rahul as 'future PM'

A few questions might have to be repeated.

Does anyone still hold the right to be called 'kid' or immature at the age of 56 ?  People may still ask -- What can happen if Priyanka Gandhi outshines her brother? Rahul Gandhi had his birthday on June19th ::: Politics plays up ... for 2029

Desperate projects Rahul as 'future PM' notwithstanding cross voting in multiple states and alliance partners having their reservations and even disapproval. Nevertheless; to be out of power is a FRUSTRATING and all that is Palpable.

He is two years older than his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Priyanka Gandhi is 54 years old, while Rahul Gandhi has turned 56.

Even at the age of 56, Rahul Gandhi remains unmarried.

His marriage has often been a topic of public discussion, with political leaders including Lalu Prasad Yadav joking about it on public platforms. Sonia Gandhi has also been indirectly linked to comments about finding a suitable match for him.

On June 19, 2026 -- Varanasi poster on Rahul Gandhi’s birthday sparks political buzz

He was projected as Parashuram. As if Hindu votes can come so easily !!

What stood out on June 19th was the birthday greetings from an estranged ally: the DMK leader M K Stalin.

M K Stalin sent 'Birthday wishes' to LoP Lok Sabha but drops the word "brother" .... "in ideals" - the missing phrase tells the story of Congress betrayal to an old ally.

June 19, 2025: DMK supremo and then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote on X, “Warm birthday wishes to my brother-in-ideals, @RahulGandhi — bound not by blood, but by thought, vision, and purpose. May you continue to stand firm and lead with courage. In our march towards a brighter India, victory shall be ours.”

June 19, 2026: Stalin, now a former Chief Minister, posted on X, “Birthday greetings to Hon’ble Leader of Opposition Thiru. Rahul Gandhi. Wishing you good health and happiness.”

In a surprise and self-seeking move, the Congress snapped ties with the DMK on May 6 (after polls results came on May 4th) and put its weight behind actor-politician Vijay’s TVK.

The DMK responded sharply to the Congress move, with Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin accusing the Grand Old Party of “stabbing in the back”.

Various alliance partners will not be happy with the manner, the Congress tried to project Rahul as the future PM.

A few more questions. What if the media lavish more attention on Priyanka than Rahul Gandhi?

But Sickular media in India is a loyalist stuff. And hardcore. They know who is stronger; but they also know whom to praise.

Of course, many believe Rahul Gandhi will take on the role of 'formal head of the INDI- alliance'.

But there are preconditions. The job of keeping the opposition united will be a tough and tricky one.

There are related matters and exactly how the coalition will take shape remains unclear.

The defeat of Mamata has marginalised one rival. But Akhilesh Yadav, who won 37 seats in 2024 Lok Sabha polls, too will be in the competition.

So to talk about 2027; it may be argued that the Congress will not be interested in Yogi's ouster than the marginalisation of the Samajwadi Party.

Whether the opposition parties will come together with any 'form of uniting document or Common Minimum Porgramme' is still unclear.

Most want it simply to be a "temporary marriage of convenience".

But with such politics and 'absence' of unity of purpose; the strength to stand up to PM Narendra Modi in parliament and elections - is still far off.

The Indian voters only add to the complexities of Rahul, his ecosystem and also other opposition parties.

The 2024 election had at best given a very nuanced verdict.

Modi returned to power and since then has been dominating all the state elections including Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam.

Thus; a "complete defeat" for Namo is still a mirage.

While the NDA Govt has been accused of systematically targeting and weakening the opposition since Narendra Modi was elected in a landslide win in 2014, the ineffective politics of Rahul Gandhi - simply banking of Modi bashing - has not worked out successfully.

If the the 'biggest story' of June 2024 was the "reversal of fortunes" for the Congress party -- that could win 99 seats; it may not be still the right time to describe these as the "emergence of Rahul Gandhi".

Can voters in northern states and now Maharashtra or Gujarat and West Bengal  – agree to take Rahul as the legitimate political leader.

Prior to 2024 poll results; the Congress party had been facing existential questions about its future and a groundswell of malaise within its ranks.

In 2026, except Kerala the Congress has not able to deliver. And in Kerala, reasons are different. It has nothing to do with Rahul's perceived or the so-called hyped charishma.

Rahul Gandhi is still a non-performer. He is still not the vote-getter. And he would still be described as a reluctant leader and too weak to take on Moditva.
