Amid ruckus in Rajya Sabha, Former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader
H D Deve Gowda says, "...For the first time in history they (opposition) are bringing an impeachment motion against the Chairman.
They are setting a new precedent, this is going to destroy our democratic system...".
JD-S is part of the BJP-led alliance and Deve Gowda's son H D Kumaraswamy is a Minister in the Union Cabinet.
On Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's Hathras visit, National General Secretary of BJP, Tarun Chugh says,
"He (Rahul Gandhi) can do anything for PR...The nation wants to know what is the relation of congress with the nefarious conspirator George Soros...they (Congress) have kept the county's interests aside for decades for the sake of the commercial and industrial profits of their extended family..."
BJP chief and Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Thursday, Dec 12 slammed Congress president and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge for addressing a press conference to make charges and criticise Rajya Sabha chairman Dhankhar.
"The chairman's ruling cannot be questioned .... to do so is the contempt of the House and the chairman," he said in Rajya Sabha amidst protest from some of the opposition members.
"This is very clearly stated (in the rule book) ... But with sadness I have to state that yesterday the Leader of the Opposition Shri Kharge, who is himself very much experienced, addressed a press conference and criticised th chair".
"This is objectionable and condemnable.... and this will only set a bad precedent".
Nadda also maintained that "Is ki jitna bhi bhratsna ki jae ....woh kam padegi".
"This should be condemned by one and all".
"Kharge ji has said at the press conference that he and other opposition members are not given enough opportunities. But I would like to state that he has been given enough time.
He is also called for meeting at the Chairman's chamber a number of times...Letters have been written from the chair....to the LoP to participate in debate.....But LoP has denied and he has not come for last Business Advisory Committee meeting," Nadda alleged.
"This only shows how much interest you take in parliamentary and democratic traditions"
"From your party's official Twitter handle, you have called the chairman the 'cheer leader'. The country will never forgive this effort of yours to demean the constitutional positions".
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh says, "Even today we saw what was the need to bring a no-confidence motion against the Rajya Sabha chairman. The Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha was not allowed to speak in Parliament... This is an insult to the Leader of the Opposition and the Congress party.
"When the opposition raises an issue in Parliament, the Rajya Sabha chairman says nothing will go on record, but when the ruling party raises an issue it goes on record.
"They (ruling party MPs) are given a chance to speak in Parliament... We condemn this... They want to divert attention from the Adani issue... They are making baseless comments about George Soros... We want Parliament to function...".
