Volatile Manipur: "Govt takes note of techno upgradation in ethnic violence"

Centre focused on a two-pronged approach

New Delhi

The Govt of India is not alarmed but there is no denying the fact that the North Block in Delhi under the powerful Home Minister Amit Shah is now "very much concerned".

"The Home Ministry is of course focused on a two pronged strategy of enforcing law and order and dialogue with both communities aimed at reconciliation in Manipur," an informed source told 'Nagaland Page'.

The government is "very much concerned about the recent escalation and technological upgradation in the ethnic violence".

This is being seen as a new twist in the long tale of insurgency and ethnic conflicts in the north east.

Things have changed a lot from the guerrilla warfare that started in the 1960s.

It moved to Maruti culture and then Bolero, especially in cash-rich Nagaland -- also a state facing rampant extortion since the late 1990s when the peace parleys commenced during the Prime Ministership of I K Gujral and when S C Jamir was the Chief Minister and Neiphiu Rio was Home Minister (since 1998).

The insurgency in Tripura was infamous for kidnapping for ransom and allegedly 'slow poisoning' also deprived long lives to those who used to be abducted.

The centre has not given up its spirit to deal with the situations and neo-challenges.

"We are hopeful that the situation will improve soon," the informed source clarified aftermath the twin attacks in Manipur by drones and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs).

After the recent escalation of violence and use of hi-tech methodologies, Manipur police have claimed that two bunkers at Mualsang village and one bunker at Laika Mualsau village of Churachandpur were destroyed.

Security forces conducted combing operations in the hill ranges adjoining the area after Kuki militants deployed long-range rockets among the civilian population in two locations of Bishnupur district.

One senior citizen civilian, RK Rabei ,78, of Moirang Phiwangbam Leikai, expired and six other civilians were injured during the attacks in Moirang Khoiru Leikai, Bishnupur district,

The Biren Singh-led Manipur government has appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos.

Any circulations of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of the Central Control room, state authorities said.

They further appealed  to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.

The army in a statement on Thursday said it has “ramped up its search operations across the region to counter the surge of violent activities”.

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a leading conglomerate of Meitei-based CSOs, has already warned of mass protests to get the central forces deployed in the strife-hit state withdrawn if they do not act against Kuki-Zo militants “responsible” for the September 1 drone attacks in which a woman was killed and several injured in Imphal West district’s Koutruk village.

The Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) has said that the use of unauthorized weapons, including snipers, drone bombings, and improvised rocket-propelled devices, in the ongoing communal conflict between the Kuki and Meitei communities is no trivial matter.

Of course, the deployment of drones and RPGs has taken the strife levels in Manipur to a battlefield scenario.

Analysts say the situation in Bangladesh is volatile and in neighbouring Myanmar, there is fighting between rebels and the junta.

Technical expertise is clearly visible in renewed Manipur assaults,

If the warfare-like situation spreads it will be more difficult to control.
