RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks on God, alluded to Narendra Modi ::::: Congress fields Vinesh Phogat in Haryana polls

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief  Mohan Bhagwat said that people, not individuals, should decide whether someone should be treated like a God.

Bhagwat was speaking Thursday at an event marking the centenary year of Shankar Dinkar Kane’s birth. Kane was a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader who worked on children’s education in Manipur, according to reports.

While Bhagwat did not specify if his remark was directed at any individual, it could be linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi because of the latter’s claim of not being born biologically.

“Until my mother was alive, I used to think I was born biologically,” Modi had told News18 in May while campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections.

“After her demise, when I look at my experiences, I am convinced that I was sent by god. This strength is not from my body. It has been given to me by god.....That’s why god also gave me the ability, strength, pure heartedness and also the inspiration to do this. I’m nothing but an instrument that god has sent.”

Since the Lok Sabha election results were announced in early June, senior members of the RSS also have made several statements that have been seen as critical of Modi and the BJP leadership.

The BJP won 240 seats in the general election, a significant dip from its tally of 303 seats in 2019.

Senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar had said on June 13 that the BJP failed to secure the majority on its own in the 2024 polls due to “arrogance”.

Bhagwat said on June 10 that Manipur has been waiting for peace for over a year and that the situation in the state requires urgent attention. The BJP is in power in Manipur.

“The kind of things that were said, the way the two sides [the ruling National Democratic Alliance and the Opposition] castigated each other…The way no one cared about social divisions being created because of what was being done…And for no reason the Sangh was dragged into this…How will the country operate like this?” asked Bhagwat.

Haryana CM Saini questions Congress' intention after Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia join party

Haryana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has questioned the Congress' intention after wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the party and given key political assignments.

Congress appointed Punia as the working chairman of All India Kisan Congress and fielded Phogat as candidate from Julana Assembly constituency.

"Every person has their own opinion about which ideology they want to associate with. Congress should clarify its intention behind this. The Congress has consistently opposed those decisions. Therefore, Congress needs to clarify their motives, especially since they engage in politics involving players, soldiers, and farmers," he said while speaking to reporters in Rohtak.

Wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat joined the Congress earlier on Friday in the presence of Congress General Secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal, party leader Pawan Khera, Haryana Congress Chief Udai Bhan and AICC in-charge of Haryana, Deepak Babaria.

The wrestlers resigned from their respective positions in Northern Railways earlier in the day.

Voting for the 90-member Haryana Assembly will be held on October 5 and votes will be counted on October 8.  Punia won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, while Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the Olympics final.

Ms Phogat lost the medal owing to overweight and was disqualified.

Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, state unit chief Udai Bhan, and former minister Geeta Bhukkal are among the 32 candidates named by the Congress in its first list for the October 5 Assembly elections in Haryana.

Hooda, a two-time CM, will contest from his stronghold Garhi Sampla-Killoi in Rohtak district and Phogat has been fielded from from Julana in Jind district.
