PM Modi turns 74, BJP, NDA leaders extend birthday wishes, call him 'captain of the country'

Narendra Damodardas Modi, born on September 17, 1950, in the modest town of Mehsana, Gujarat, has risen from humble beginnings to become one of India's most influential political leaders.

PM Modi's birthday often passes like any other day, dedicated to his official responsibilities. However, it also marks the start of the "Seva Parv," a fortnight-long festival organised annually by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This event serves as a platform to highlight the Prime Minister's enduring commitment to public welfare and his philosophy of service to humanity.

Extending his wishes to PM Modi on his 74th birthday, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on his official X handle wrote, "Warm birthday wishes to the visionary leader & great son of Maa Bharati, Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Your vision for a stronger, prosperous India resonates in every heart. May your dynamic leadership & unwavering dedication continue to transform India and inspire generations!"

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde extended his heartfelt birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, "My birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wish him good health and a long life."

"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is moving towards becoming an economic superpower. I wish him the strength to fulfil his resolve of a developed India by 2047. Maharashtra is also making every possible effort to fulfil Prime Minister Modi's resolve of making the country a 5 trillion economy.

I want to say that the 21st century is India's century because the captain of the country is Prime Minister Modi. I wish him a very happy birthday," Shinde added.

Renowned sand sculptor Sudarsan Pattnaik also joined in extending birthday wishes to Prime Minister. Known for his intricate and symbolic sand art, Pattnaik has often used his creations to celebrate key national figures and events.

"May Mahaprabhu's blessings be with you always and your dreams of a Viksit Bharat be realised. Happy birthday, Hon Prime Minister @narendramodi ji," he wrote on X.

On the occasion, he also dedicated a sand art to PM Modi. "Please accept my good wishes through this sand art installation in New Delhi. Jai Jagannath!" he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has certainly left a mark with his unique aplomb during last 10 years. But at times his grip over BJP has also raised questions: Is Modi bigger than Bharatiya Janata Party?

"Can politics be so ruthless where a son is in competition against his mother," Modi had said in December 2007 after his major electoral victory in Gujarat answering criticism that  henceforth Modi would play bigger than his party.

In the interim period especially since 2014, the name of BJP is, however, synonymous with Modi's name or at least about "Team Modi".

Politically for the BJP, the last 10 years offered a typical mixed bag and more than that - a see-saw kind of situations. But overall the story of BJP has been story of Narendra Modi and his control over the party.

His stint and Modi as an individual will be remembered forever for abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and for the construction of a grand Ram temple at Ayodhya.

His inclusive policies have been marked by creation of toilets across India and of course a great push for good roads and other infrastructures.

Besides winning parliamentary polls with record seats, BJP made optimum use of "Modi-wave" and installed its own chief ministers in Manipur, Haryana, Maharashtra, Assam and Jharkhand. It got the post of deputy CM in Christian-dominated Nagaland.

Highlighting India’s position on the global stage today, Home Minister Amit Shah says: “For the first time since Independence, the world has seen a foreign policy with a backbone under the Modi government. Previously, many, including myself, couldn’t see this backbone in India’s foreign policy. Now, it is clearly visible.”

Amit Shah said, “… After dedicating 10 years to the development, security and welfare of the poor in India, the people of India gave a mandate to the BJP and its alliance parties… This happened for the first time in the last 60 years… This has brought an environment of political stability in the country. We have seen the execution of policies…”.

“… In the last 10 years, the Modi government has been successful in establishing a strong India by strengthening internal and external security… PM Modi brought the New Education Policy which includes our ancient education system and modern education, which also honours our regional languages…,” said the Home Minister.
