PM Modi leaves for US trip to participate in Quad Summit hosted by Joe Biden

The fourth Quad Leaders' Summit will be hosted by President Joe Biden in his hometown of Wilmington in Delaware.

The 2025 Quad Summit will be hosted by India.

"I look forward to joining my colleagues President Biden, Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Kishida for the Quad Summit. The forum has emerged as a key group of like-minded countries to work for peace, progress and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region," Modi tweeted.

"My meeting with President Biden will allow us to review and identify new pathways to further deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for the benefit of our people and the global good," he wrote.

The Quad, or Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, comprises India, the US, Japan and Australia.

"I am eagerly looking forward to engaging with the Indian diaspora and important American business leaders, who are the key stakeholders and provide vibrancy to the unique partnership between the largest and the oldest democracies of the world." he said.

Modi left for a three-day visit to the US, where he'll be participating in the fourth Quad Leaders' Summit on September 21, and will also address an event at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Quad Summit is being hosted by President Joe Biden in his hometown, Wilmington.

The Quad Summit is expected to focus on the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, maritime security, emerging technologies and an ambitious cancer-fighting initiative.

The Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders during the Summit and will discuss issues of mutual interest. On September 23, PM Modi will address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which will be attended by several world leaders.

He will interact with the Indian community while in New York on September 22 and the CEOs of leading US-based businesses to foster greater collaboration between the two countries in the cutting-edge areas of AI, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The White House has announced the formation of the bipartisan House and Senate Quad Caucuses ahead of the Quad Leaders' Summit.

"The launch of the Quad Caucus underscores our shared commitment to fostering peace, stability, and development in the region. By promoting collaboration on key issues like maritime security, infrastructure, and climate, we can ensure a safer and more prosperous future for all," said White House Representative Ami Bera.

US lawmaker Rob Wittman echoed a similar statement and said that the cooperation between the United States, Japan, India, and Australia was "crucial for the future stability of the Indo-Pacific".

The Quad ministerial meetings started under the administration of former US President Donald Trump and in the last eight years, the alliance has enjoyed broad bipartisan support.

The last Quad Leaders' Summit, the fifth edition, was held in Hiroshima, Japan on May 20 last year. In addition to the Joint Statement, the "Quad Leaders' Vision Statement - Enduring Partners for the Indo-Pacific" was also released, outlining the Leaders' vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, and upholding the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
