Row over senior Kerala cop meeting RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabala in Thrissur

Kerala ADGP MR Ajith Kumar admits having met RSS general secretary, terms it as ‘private visit’

This was on May 22, 2023 during the RSS camp at Paramekkavu Vidya Mandir.

A report has been received by the Special Branch DGP and the Intelligence Section confirming the meeting.

Kerala's Opposition leader V D Satheesan had made the allegation a day after the controversial meeting.

The Opposition leader claimed that ADGP was entrusted by the Chief Minister to negotiate with the RSS.

ADGP M  R Ajith Kumar admitted to meeting with RSS general secretary but it is being stated he went on the invitation of a classmate and that it was a personal visit.

It has been also alleged that the meeting was aimed at creating a political advantage for the BJP by messing up the Pooram.

Although Ajith Kumar explained it as a private visit, he will have to give more clarity in the context of political allegations related to Thrissur Pooram. He is facing serious allegations in connection with the Pooram from the ruling party itself. Ruling MLA PV Anvar also raised several allegations, including that of murder, against the police official, sparking controversy.

Reports claim the senior cop also met former BJP general secretary ano key RSS functionary, Ram Madhav.

It is also claimed that the ADGP admitted to the Chief Minister's office that his visit was personal. This drew sharp reactions from the state's ruling party ally CPI and the opposition Congress.

As per media reports, Kumar, a close confidant of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, offered an explanation to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) that he had met with RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale in Thrissur last May, but clarified that it was a "personal visit".

However, a CMO source said they "lacked clear information" about the ADGP's explanation.

The controversy took a turn a day after ruling CPI (M) had termed as a "lie and pure nonsense" the opposition Congress' charge that Ajith Kumar acted as a 'middleman' between the CM and the RSS to disrupt the iconic Thrissur Pooram festival to secure the Lok Sabha poll victory of the BJP candidate in Thrissur.

The ADGP's :explanation" did not go well with the CPI, the second largest coalition partner in the LDF.

Senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan questioned the reported explanation of the ADGP.

"What personal visit? RSS is an organisation equally opposed to the LDF and UDF. An IPS officer, under the Chief Minister, had met the national leader of such an outfit. Shouldn't he inform the CM or the DGP before the visit?" he asked.
