Union Minister and former Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar addressed party workers in Ambala City, stating that the closure of the Shambhu border is a major issue. Khattar alleged that individuals pretending to be farmers on the other side of the border aim to disrupt the system and destabilise the government.
“A plan was chalked out to reopen this border, but I must inform you that the people on the other side are not genuine farmers,” Khattar said.
“Some individuals are masquerading as farmers to cause disturbance and instability. The people of Haryana are pleased that strong barricades prevented unwanted entry.”
Khattar added that the matter is currently before the courts, and a Supreme Court-constituted committee is working on a solution. “We are hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon. However, the court may impose certain conditions before reopening the border, considering the chaos that ensued previously.”
On the other hand, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda slammed the BJP government for keeping the Shambhu border barricaded and said after the Congress came to power, he would reopen the Haryana-Punjab border.
The Shambhu border has been lying closed due to the ongoing farmers’ protest since February. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who was scheduled to address the rally today, couldn’t reach as he had been advised rest.
Addressing the rally in Ambala City in support of party candidate Nirmal Singh, Hooda said, “The people of Haryana have compared the 10-year tenures of the Congress and the BJP, and have decided to form the Congress government in Haryana.
During the Congress rule, Haryana was No. 1 in terms of development, but under the BJP’s rule, Haryana is No. 1 in unemployment, inflation, corruption and crime.”
