West Bengal Governor asks Mamata Banerjee to call meet ... discuss need to 'replace' Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal

Governor Bose stated that the state government should decide on the people's demand to replace Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.

"Governor Bose has directed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to hold an emergency Cabinet meeting as early as possible and discuss protesters and common people's demand for justice including replacement of the city police commissioner," a BJP source said in Delhi. 

The relations between Governor and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as it is - has not been very cordial. 

The Governor has been on record stating that the state government cannot evade responsibility and remain silent on the disturbing developments in the state.

"The state should function within the Constitution and the rule of law," the source said hinting that general pressure is building up to act tough with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

A retired Supreme Court judge Justice Asok Kumar Ganguly has publicly demanded that Mamata should be quizzed. Tampering of evidence and shielding the wrong doers are two major charges against the Trinamool dispensation.  

"The ostrich-like attitude will not pay," the source maintained.

The body of an on-duty trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered, was found in the seminar room of state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, triggering nationwide outrage.
