Kolkata Junior Doctors continue Stir .... But Can Mamata really walk the talk ::: Has she 'rewarded' ousted police commissioner Goyal

 Kolkata Doctors Continue Stir....

“Our andolan in front of the Swasthya Bhawan will continue till we see in writing that the Chief Minister has walked the talk and has actually acted on what was decided in the meeting and that these are not mere words. Then only we will consider withdrawing our strike,” said Dr Debasish Halder, one of the leaders from the sit-in before the state Health Department.

Another doctor said, “We hope that the verbal promises she made will be practically implemented. To some extent, we believe the discussion was successful. However, regarding our demand for action against the Principal Secretary and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Central, we did not receive any assurance.”

Manoj Kumar Verma, a 1998-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been named as the new Commissioner of Kolkata Police.

He replaces Vineet Kumar Goyal, who has been transferred to the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police as the Additional Director General (ADG).

On Monday, Sept 16,  night, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee promised the junior doctors, protesting over the ghastly rape and murder of a junior doctor at the R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in the state capital last month, that she will replace Goyal.

Verma held the post of Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) and Jawed Shamim will now be occupying that chair.

As announced by the Chief Minister on Monday, Deputy Commissioner (North Division) of Kolkata Police Abhishek Gupta has also been replaced. Gupta has been transferred as the Commanding Officer of the second battalion of the Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR). He will be replaced by Dipak Sarkar, who is currently posted as the Deputy Commissioner at the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, reports say.

Gyanwant Singh, the Director of the Directorate of Economic Offense, has been transferred to the Intelligence Branch of the state police as the ADG. Singh will be replaced by Tripurari Athrav, the erstwhile ADG (STF).

The erstwhile Director of Medical Education Kaushik Nayak and Director of Health Services Debasish Halder have also been replaced.

Kolkata protest

Referring to CJI D Y Chandrachud's remarks during hearing in the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the CBI status report was "disturbing" even for the honourabe judges, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said, --

"Honourable Court said the CBI status report cannot be disclosed as of now ..... ..everyone seems to understand that there is something big in that report. The day this report is out, there will be disaster," said the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly.

He also made a sarcastic observation: "Mamata Banerjee ke jete hobey (The day this report is out; Mamata Banerjee will have to pack up or go".

"You have sent Vineet Goyal to the STF... This is a prized posting and not punishment posting," Suvendu Adhikari said.

The new man who has come as Kolkata police commissioner is Manoj Verma.... He was  a blue-eyed boy of the erstwhile CPI-M regime and was infamous for torturing people, manhandling them and giving them all the tag of Maoists," Adhikari said.

"Manoj Pandey was SP West Mednipore...He even did not allow me to move around freely for political works. He used to supervise destruction of roads," the Lop West Bengal assembly said.
