Kolkata's top cop Vineet Goyal made sacrificial goat :::: Aapa gives in to doctors' demand and agree to replace him

Apart from the changes in the police, the Director of Medical Education, Kaustav Naik, and the Director of Health Services, Debashis Halder, have also been removed from their posts.

Mamata Banerjee agrees to doctors' demand, Kolkata top cop to be removed

A beleaguered Chief Minister announced the removal of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and the Deputy Commissioner (North), who faced bribery allegations from the family of the trainee doctor who was raped and killed in Kolkata.

"In view of the demand of junior doctors, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal said in the meeting that he is ready to resign. At 4 pm, Vineet will hand over the responsibility to the new CP," the Chief Minister said.

Mamata had a few days back even offered to resign but that could be only a lip-service as she is famous for double-standards.

As of now, Ms Banerjee seems to be happy to buy peace with the doctors so that she can survive in office.

The Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (North), against whom the victim’s family has levelled allegations of bribery, will also be removed, the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister stated that the meeting was "positive" and said the government accepted the four demands put forth by the doctors. She also requested the junior doctors to withdraw their cease-work.

A 31-year-old second-year postgraduate medical student was raped and killed inside the seminar hall of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. This sparked massive outrage across the country, and doctors in West Bengal have been protesting since then, seeking justice for the victim and measures to ensure proper security and a safe work environment in hospitals.

"I have urged agitating docs to withdraw cease work as three of their five demands have been accepted. ...No punitive action will be taken against protesting doctors," she said.

Banerjee further mentioned that a committee, led by the Chief Secretary, has been formed to address all matters related to the health sector's infrastructure.

Following Banerjee's announcement, the protesting doctors celebrated at their dharna site. A formal announcement regarding their protest will be made after the doctors who met the Chief Minister return to the protest site and hold a meeting.

Following the decision to remove Kolkata Police Commissioner Goyal, DC North Abhishek Gupta, and two health department officials amid protests by junior doctors, Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar said ---

"Mamata Banerjee has accepted some demands, though earlier she insisted she would not remove the CP. The people of Bengal were calling for action, and she eventually gave in to their demands. However, BJP believes this is a systematic failure, and the real responsibility lies with Mamata Banerjee herself."

Majumdar further accused Banerjee of losing the trust of the people of Bengal, saying,

"The people have lost faith in the Chief Minister, which is why BJP is demanding her resignation. She herself had said that if the public wanted, she would resign, and BJP will continue to fight for that demand."
