(RS chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said hat the act of coming into the Well by a leader of the opposition has happened for the first time in history, making it a "tainted day".)
BJP's Sudhanshu Trivedi said in Rajya Sabha that BJP stalwart and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "matchless" and cannot be compared with Jawahar Lal Nehru of Congress as he has been elected unanimously to lead his party, unlike the Congress leader who got zero votes.
Trivedi also took Naga leader S C Jamir and former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi's name saying they both were from Congress but decorated by the Modi regime.
Trivedi made the observation while initiating the discussion on Motion of Thanks to President's address to the joint sitting of Parliament.
Trivedi said three ex-Congress leaders Madanmohan Malviya, Pranab Mukherjee and P V Narasimha Rao got the Bharat Ratna award during the stint of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister.
He said despite Mahatma Gandhi's push, Nehru in an internal Congress meeting once got zero vote and became the Prime Minister.
"The opposition keeps asserting that Nehru cannot be compared with Modi. I also believe that there can be no comparison," he said.
"Modi ji Nehru ji kay tulna me ek atulniya PM hain aur unhone yeah atulniya uplabdhi haasil ki hai (Modi is matchless and cannot be compared to Nehru. Modi has also had matchless achievements)," he said.
Nehru, he said, came from an affluent background while Modi came from a very humble family.
"Woh jawaharat ke lal the, aur Modi ji gudri ke lal the," he said.
Trivedi said while Nehru jailed people for criticism, the Modi government has not taken any action against his critics. Trivedi recalled poet Majrooh Sultanpuri was arrested and kept behind bars for comparing Nehru with Hitler.
He further said Nehru awarded Bharat Ranta to himself, while Modi has conferred the highest civilian award to people across party lines, including three leaders associated with the Congress party.
On the Congress' claim of working to save Constitution of India, Trivedi said the Constitution was always came under threat when the grand old party was in power.
He said the Congress government changed the Preamble of the Constitution and misused provisions of the Constitution to dismiss elected state governments of ruled by the opposition parties.
Referring to the Shah Bano case, when Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister, Trivedi said the Congress party placed 'Sharia' above the Constitution.
"Two of their (opposition) leaders were arrested, and they think democracy is in danger," Trivedi said, and listed out names of several leaders who were arrested by the Congress governments.
Regarding opposition parties being upbeat on the BJP's loss in Faizabad (Ayodhya) and other Lok Sabha constituencies associated with Lord Ram, Trivedi said the opposition at least has now started recognising the existence of Lord Rama.
During his speech, he highlighted various achievements of the Modi government during the last 10 years. These include making India the fifth largest economy in the world and the PSUs like SBI, LIC and HAL recording profits.
His speech was repeatedly interrupted by opposition's sloganeering and multiple adjournments of the proceedings. At one point Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi's point of order was rejected by the chair.

“It was shocking and hurtful,” says Rajya Sabha chairman on Kharge coming to the well of the House.
“It was shocking and hurtful,” said Dhankar. "It was very painful and, unbelievable for me...that Kharge, a leader with Parliamentary experience of over five decades, having held the position of Leader of Opposition both in the state and in Parliament walking into the Well of the House," he said.
The Rajya Sabha Chairman said, "He (Kharge) came to the Well the entire House saw. But what is more painful, hurtful for me, is that he has outside, misreported, misrepresented and has spoken untruth... He is in denial mode and his statement which has been put on Twitter (now X) ... is self-contradictory."
After multiple adjournments, when the House re-assembled at 2 pm, a discussion on the Motions of Thanks on the President's Address took place amid a walkout by the Opposition.
Reacting to the mode of protest, Kharge said that he was left with no choice because Dhankar had been ignoring him to "insult him".
"This is actually the Chairman's fault. I observed parliamentary rules and raised my hand for 10 minutes, but he did not look at me. That's when I had to go in to attract his attention but he still did not look at me. When all the members came (into the well), I walked out, I did not even stay there.
I tried to attract his attention, but he was only looking towards the treasury benches. When I raised my hand, he should have looked at me according to the rules, but he did what he did to ignore and insult me," Kharge later told reporters.
There was uproar by the Opposition over the discussion on the alleged irregularities in NEET in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, June 28th.
The Upper House witnessed repeated adjournments. In Lok Sabha too, the issue was brought up by the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The Lower House had to be adjourned for the day and the debate on Motion of Thanks to President's address could not be taken up.
The Opposition started sloganeering in Rajya Sabha and staged a walkout a few hours into the session. Expressing anguish over the tensions prevailing in the House, Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankar said it was “unbelievable” that the Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge entered the Well of the House to protest.
Milind Deora, the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde camp) MP in Rajya Sabha on Friday extended greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his third consecutive tenure and said that despite three terms in power, the 'leader with global appeal' enjoys massive support of the masses.
His unique style of congratulating the Prime Minister and his government drew the attention of members and also made them curious for more, as the Sena leader compared his 10-year term with multiple 'change of guards' in other nations ranging from Asia to Europe and America.
Milind Deora claimed that in this age of anti-incumbency, ten years of PM Modi-led government outlasted 6 Prime Ministers of Pakistan, 5 Prime Ministers of the UK, 4 Presidents of Sri Lanka, 3 Presidents of the US and 2 Presidents of France.
The Sena leader said there was growing anti-incumbency across the globe and despite that Modi government braved the wave on the back of the Prime Minister's popularity.
"Fighting anti-incumbency has become more challenging, because of a more aware and aspirational population, social media playing a critical role in elections and also the demographic transitions across the world," he said.
Notably, the change in guards in Pakistan in the last decade saw six Prime Ministers assuming office. They included Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan Muslim League-N (2013-2017), Shahid Khaqan Abbasi of Pakistan Muslim League-N (2017-18), Imran Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (2018-2022), Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan Muslim League-N serving two terms, first from 2022-23 and then again becoming PM after 2024 elections.
