India committed to realising Bangabandhu’s vision of stable and progressive Bangladesh: PM Modi


A technical team from India will soon visit Bangladesh to oversee the Teesta development project. PM Narendra Modi also announced that Ganga River Water Agreement will be renewed after meeting of technical team of two countries.

Modi also said, e-Visa will be given for medical treatment in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in one of the first international engagements in Modi 3.0 on Saturday reiterated India’s commitment to realising Bangabandhu Mujib Rahman’s vision of a stable, prosperous and progressive Bangladesh.

He said his government will continue to give the highest priority to its relations with Dhaka.


“Bangladesh is India’s largest development partner and lies at the confluence of our ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, Act East policy, Vision SAGAR and Indo-Pacific vision. Together, we have completed many important public welfare projects in the last one year,” said PM Modi after holding talks with visiting Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi.






"I must also mention that this is the first incoming state visit in the current new term of this government. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was among the first leaders to congratulate Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for his historic third term as the Prime Minister of India," foreign secretary Vinay Kwatra said.

"These back-to-back exchanges between our two countries underscore the special nature of our relationship, our strategic partnership and the trust and the respect that the two Prime Ministers share with each other, hold for each other. In terms of substance of the discussions, the conversations between the two Prime Ministers covered a range of, pretty much the full range of our bilateral engagement as also issues of regional and global importance",


"There was agreement by both leaders to give new direction, new impetus and provide new substance in strengthening our bilateral and sub-regional cooperation. In order to turn this relationship into transformational partnership and, as I said, give a new direction and new impetus, both leaders jointly agreed to the India-Bangladesh Shared Vision for Future: Enhanced Connectivity, Commerce and Collaboration for Shared Prosperity," he said. 


"This vision document of futuristic partnership between India and Bangladesh will also be shared in a short while with the media. This vision document seeks to realize our respective national development visions of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Smart Bangladesh vision of 2041," the foreign secretary said,

Deepening historic ties between the two countries, the talks covered a range of areas of bilateral cooperation including development partnership, energy, water resources, trade, defence cooperation, and more.


PM Modi said that both countries have prepared a futuristic vision for cooperation in new areas. “The youth of both countries will benefit from the consensus reached on cooperation in areas such as green partnership, digital partnership, blue economy and space,” said Prime Minister Modi.


“We welcome Bangladesh’s decision to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative. We will also continue our cooperation in other regional and international forums, including BIMSTEC,” he said,


The two leaders have met each other 10 times since 2019, making unprecedented transformations in the relationship which has served as a role model for neighbourhood partnership.


Earlier, PM Modi received the Bangladesh Prime Minister at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, as the first guest on a bilateral State visit after the formation of the new government in India. PM Sheikh Hasina also paid respect to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.


The Bangladesh leader also called President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.





Welcoming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the President said that she was delighted to meet her again, just a few days after the swearing in ceremony of the new government. She said these regular interactions reflect the enduring spirit of friendship and cooperation, that began with the journey of Bangladesh’s Liberation War of 1971.

 

The President was happy to note that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has made significant economic progress, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said. 

 

The President noted that India and Bangladesh are moving ahead rapidly to strengthen their cooperation in various areas and are entering into new sectors also. She expressed confidence that this will chart the future course of the India-Bangladesh relationship.
