"Owaisi should be removed from Parliament." says Minister Giriraj Singh ....Finally, Rahul Gandhi to get 'cabinet' status .... Sonia writes to LS chair that Rahul will be Leader of Opposition in lower House

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi dares ruling BJP to take action against him.

On the 'controversial' slogan used by him while taking oath in Lok Sabha, Owaisi says "Let them do whatever they want. I also know a little bit about the Constitution. These empty threats will not work on me."

Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi wrote to Pro-tem speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab stating that Rahul Gandhi be formally recognised as the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.

Incidentally, both Sonia and Rajiv Gandhi, held the posts. Sonia held it during the stint of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Prime Minister and Rajiv held it between 1989-90 when V P Singh government had come to power after ousting him.

So, Rahul Gandhi will be the third member of the Nehru-Gandhi family to hold the post. Indira Gandhi did not held the post.

In the process, Lok Sabha will also get that 'post' after a gap of 10 years as for two consecutive terms in 2014 and 2019 (16th and 17th Lok Sabha), the Congress could not get one-tenth of seats out of total 543.

In 2019, the Congress tally stuck at 52 and five years back it was the worst ever in Congress history - 44 (2014).

In 2024 polls, the Congress has managed to win as many as 99 seats.

On June 9, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party's top decision-making body, passed a resolution to appoint Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.

In last two terms, Mallikarjun Kharge and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were nominated as Congress floor leaders in the Lok Sabha in 2014 and 2019 respectively.

Incidentally yet again, Kharge lost 2019 polls in Karnataka and Adhir Chowdhury lost this year's polls to cricketer Yusuf Pathan of Trinamool Congress in Bahrampur.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan says, "The Speaker of the Lok Sabha is not of any particular party. He is for the whole House. It is a tradition that the Speaker must be chosen unanimously... This situation has risen because of the persistence of the Oppostion. They do not have enough numbers...".

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi says, "...As we said, the ruling party needs to change its attitude. A consensus can be reached only after listening to everyone.

The ruling party cannot decide which issue is to be taken when. Today, the ruling party should get the message that the Parliament before 2024 and after 2024, is completely different...".

On the words used by AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi while taking oath in Parliament, Union Minister Giriraj Singh says, "The way Owaisi took oath in the Parliament has disrespected the entire country. Saying 'Palestine Zindabad' is an offence and strict actions should be taken against him. He should be removed from the Parliament...".
