'Aapa exposed again' : Centre on Mamata Banerjee's letter to PM ..... says West Bengal hasn't opened 11 Fast Track Special Courts

Centre on Mamata Banerjee's letter to PM Modi:

Strict laws on rape already there

Union Minister Annapurna Devi wrote to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asking her to implement the existing stringent central legislations on rape "in letter and spirit" amid outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

Centre says Bengal hasn't opened 11 Fast Track Special Courts for rape cases

Govt of India says Mamata Banerjee should rather implement central laws 'in letter and spirit'

"In spite of the pendency of 48,600 rape and POCSO cases in West Bengal, the state has not operationalised additional 11 FTSCs which may be exclusive POCSO courts or combined FTSCs dealing with both rape and POCSO cases, as per the state's requirement," Union Minister wrote in her letter to the West Bengal Chief Minister.

Earlier on Friday, Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reiterating her request for stringent central legislation and exemplary punishment for heinous crimes like rape and murder.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also wrote to the Prime Minister on the same issue following massive outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Banerjee had called for mandatory provision for time-bound disposal of cases of rape and murder.

In her letter, Devi, said the West Bengal government established 88 Fast Track Courts (FTCs), which were not the same as the FTSCs covered under the central government scheme.
