Two Naga BJP leaders make timely intervention on national politics

No Trust voting : 'How will NE MPs vote' ?

The Congress internal politics is at play perhaps at its peak vis-a-vis the No Confidence Motion moved against the Narendra Modi government for the second since 2018.

Two Naga BJP leaders M Chuba Ao, Lotus party's national vice president and S PhangnonKonyak, Rajya Sabha MP, made 'timely intervention' on 'national politics' and flayedCongress and other opposition parties. These were no ordinary coincidences.

On Wednesday, July 26, at the morning hours much before Parliament session resumed, Ms Phangnon Konyak tweeted and stepped up her party's attack on the Opposition parties.

Ms Phangnon stated that the people of the country are well aware of Opposition's "duplicity""In its desperate attempt to retain a semblance of relevance, the opposition is trying to paint itself with a new color. However fancy the color, people are all well too aware of its duplicity," she tweeted.

The first Naga woman lawmaker in the Upper House of Parliament, said, "It (Opposition's polity)will be a short-lived experiment - one the opposition would like to quickly forget".

BJP national vice president Chuba Ao on Tuesday flayed the move of tabling a No Confidencemotion and told 'Nagaland Page',  "It seems the Congress and other opposition parties have only used rhetoric power on the Manipur issues but now do not have confidence to face Home Minister Amit Shah in a debate on Manipur situation in Parliament".

Both the Naga BJP leaders' remarks come close on the heels of Home
Minister Amit Shah stating in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, "We don't have anything to hide. Create a conducive atmosphere for a discussion. ..The government has no fear and anyone who wants to discuss it is welcome".

Meanwhile, analysts say Mizoram's lone Lok Sabha MP,  C. Lalrosanga - who has beenotherwise critical of centre's handling of Manipur crisis, is now likely to vote against theNo Trust motion. The argument being, the MNF cannot support a Congress-sponsored motion.

The fact that Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi was asked to table No Confidence Motion also displayed internalbickering in the Congress because the Trinamool Congress is understandably against the idea of allowing or cooperating with floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.  Ms Mamata Banerjee and Mr Chowdhury are bitter political rivals in West Bengal.

It also remains to be seen how things unfold in the Congress in next few days as grand old party's Rajya Sabha members Mallikarjun Kharge (also AICC president) and general secretary Jairam Ramesh have been stealing the media limelight during the last fortnight.

All eyes will be on Congress's list of speakers and on whether articulate Shashi Tharoor will be allowedto have his say in Lok Sabha during the debate.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP already says it will oppose the motion.

YSRCP leader V. Vijayasai Reddy said, "When everything is going good, where is the necessity for No Confidence Motion? We are going to oppose the Motion."  The YSRCP has 22 members in Lok Sabha.

Out of 14 MPs in Assam, Congress has three including Gaurav Gogoi, the BJP has 9, AIUDF- 1and One independent.

Meghalaya's Shillong MP Vincent Pala is a Congressman and the other MP, Agatha Sangtamof the NPP (Tura) is also likely to back the NDA.

Importantly, Inner Manipur MP is Union Minister Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh (BJP)and Outer Manipur is represented by NPF leader Lorho S. Pfoze.

The BJP has two members each in Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh including Kiren Rijiju. NDPP member Tokheho Yepthomi is unlikely to vote against the Modi government.

It may be mentioned that in 2019 February, Mr Modi had challenged Congress party to 'prepare hard' to bring a Motion of No Confidence against him in 2023.

"It is your arrogance that from 400, you were reduced to 40 and it is due to our service that from 2 MPs in Lok Sabha, now we are in the Treasury bench," Modi had said.
