Maharashtra shocker will curb NDPP's 'secular misadventure' towards NCP and Trinamool

NCP got seven MLAs in Nagaland, and based on the party’s decision, all the MLAs went with BJP. If we were able to collaborate with BJP in Nagaland, there is no reason why we cannot do the same here.

Our commitment is to work towards the progress and welfare of Maharashtra, and we are ready to undertake all necessary measures to achieve that goal,

says Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.

New Delhi

Those who blow with the wind know the 'power' of the power-wind. Ever since the Karnataka mandate came in, there were enthusiasts in the NDPP who would tease BJP colleagues --- your days are over.

Some would refer to political machinations of Sharad Pawar, the NCP chief, who today apparently lost 43 MLAs. A few others would call up Kolkata and give the feedback that everything is 'well arranged' and 'smooth' and Kolkata's "elder sister" -- Mamata Banerjee -- will be perhaps the best opposition PM-candidate.

And importantly, the Modi days will be over by 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The united opposition game is not yet over and no one is yet certain whether Ajit Pawar has been pushed to the BJP camp yet again as a Trojan horse. Yet, the Sunday shocker from Maharashtra will curb the NDPP's new found 'secular' misadventurous love for secular forces.

The NDPP is essentially an outfit of party hoppers. It is being led by veteran Chingwang Konyak, who has worked closely with all major political parties in the state including the Congress, Indira Congress (Tiwari), NDM and now NDPP.

Chief Minister and irresistible lawmaker Neiphiu Rio is a former Congressman who had started his career with the UDF. As a key architect to dismantle SC Jamir's government; he was also NPF chief minister between 2003 and 2014 - barring a small spell of President's Rule.

Hence, as the media speculation started that perhaps the Modi regime is on the last leg, it was natural for the party to discover virtues in other national parties such as the NCP. Readily there are seven NCP MLAs in Nagaland assembly and they would not mind joining the Chingwang-led outfit anytime.

But the Maharashtra development indicates that PM Narendra Modi and his lieutenant Amit Shah do not forgive certain 'mistakes'. Now both the parties in Maharashtra have suffered splits. The Shiv Sena faced embarrassment last year and this time the shocker is apparently for the 'Maratha strongman' whose supporters still think that he is a PM-material and that it is possible he plated his nephew yet again with a googly.

"They (BJP/Fadnavis) never understood my 'googly'. They lost their wicket. They will not know it because only the bowler knows the technique of 'googly," Sharad Pawar had said about the AJit Pawar-BJP alliance in 2019.

Now in 2023, who is the bowler....and is Amit Shah/Fadnavis team a better bowling side?

'Nagaland Page'

Nevertheless, the July 2 high drama will make 'enthusiasts' NDPP leaders develop cold feet. A little known Bihar MLC of BJP - Sanjay Jaswal - had indirectly passed a message about 17 Babus. It was a political billiard.

An outfit famous for issuing denials ignored what the Bihar MLC said?

Importantly, none from the central BJP also pulled up Jaiswal for his out of turn remarks. Even otherwise everyone knows there are four-five cases in Nagaland under ED scanner. So, the Sunday evening message was 'Let us be more careful and watchful'. So, what's wrong to say -- the BJP is the best political option.

Technically, Rio has been BJP's friend since 2003 and that's two decades and that gives him an advantage. This is where we look at the failures of leaders such as T R Zeliang and Shurhozelie. Rio has not doubt handled the BJP protagonists such as Ram Madhav, Nalin Kohli and Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Even Manipur violence has not provoked any 'wise' statements from the NDPP leadership.

"We are here and also there...," seems to be an unwritten motto. Only exception that also happens through back seat drive is the hyped noise on the Uniform Civil Code. Was Sharad Pawar keen to talk to Chingwang Konyak on UCC?

How long is the duration of the journey of power-politics?

Meanwhile, some BJP leaders including 'defeated candidates' of February polls met at the initiatives of Deputy CM, Y Patton. Did the party high command approve of such a meeting?

Interestingly, among those who attended, some are reluctant to blame Chief Minister Rio alone for the poll outcome. "I think we should rather blame our own party and our own organisational leaders, especially Nalin Kohli and Temjen Imna Along. It's not fair to blame Rio, he is not in our party," says one party leader.

In an era where deception in politics is an art; even such remarks could have double meaning.

Let us take a closer view at the following quote from a former United States Secretary of Defence. “There are known knowns; there are things we know; we know. .....But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know, we don’t know.” – Donald Rumsfeld
