Guest Column: M Chuba Ao, BJP Natl. Vice Prez. :::: NDA's 'Rainbow' and Politics of negativity in Opposition camp

(This article also published in a popular Sikkim newspaper)

The Politics of negativity will take India's opposition nowhere. A weak and to an extent even irresponsible opposition, by any name, will remain a weak and irresponsible combination.

The Bengaluru show was only sound and fury and lacked any political substance.
Never in the past a coalition was set up singularly with hatred against one man, Narendra Modi, and the entire focus of a conclave was also on its name.

For us in the BJP, 'nation' always comes first. India, that is Bharat, is dear to us and we will keep doing our job. On the other hand, those who rejoice in criticising India both within the country and overseas and those who mock Indian culture time and again have been compelled to adopt 'India' as its name. It's India's opposition paying a tribute to Prime Minister Modi and his guiding vision for Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas for 'New India'.

At the NDA meeting in Delhi on July 18th, also attended among others by our regional friends such as Neiphiu Rio from Nagaland, Shri Modi said the NDA is "a beautiful rainbow" and according to the Prime Minister, 'no party is big or small'. That's how a family should be built up and sustained.

Sometime back, the Prime Minister had said, “We have 400 days before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and we have to do everything in people’s service. We have to create history". Yes, history will be created as BJP under Modi ji is marching ahead towards winning the general elections for the third time in a row. Last time such a thing happened in 1967. We in the BJP and NDA will make it happen.

I may also mention that in December 2022, our party made history in Gujarat when we could record as many as seven consecutive wins in the state assembly elections in a state. Only the CPI-M had such a record in West Bengal for 34 years.

By focusing solely on its new nomenclature, the Congress and other opposition

parties showed only 'rhetoric' power and absence of any political substance. Now the crucial Monsoon session of Parliament has commenced from Thursday, July 20th.

And as usual there are opposition-led sloganeering and pandemonium scenes from the first day itself.

These 'Hungama' are driven by politics of negativity and hatred towards the ruling party and men and women in power. The hatred is more against Prime Minister Narendra Modi notwithstanding immense popularity and the mandate he enjoys.

But they seemed to have learnt no lesson. Their politics of negativity has now resulted in split in two parties -- the Shiv Sena and the NCP.

Under Bal Thackeray, Shiv Sena has been our ally for long and I should say the alliance survived through thick and thin. But desperation drove Uddhav Thackeray into the opposition camp and last year Shri Eknath Shinde led a revolt and now Uddhav Thackeray is only leaking his wounds.

First, we need to look for an answer to a small question. Why did the Sena split? It is because the party has been founded on the political ideology of anti-Congress plank.

The cadres endorsed the politics of no appeasement and inclusiveness. It was a strong nationalist force. But in 2019, in his wisdom Uddhav gave up all that. He gave up even Hindutva and started sharing power with parties such as the NCP and the Congress.

The Sena cadres cannot accept Congress diktats and Shri Uddhav ji has fallen victim to this bitter truth. The politics in Maharashtra took such a turn that even the NCP has split and today Sharad Pawar is left a dejected man. This is another proof that the politics of negativity cannot go a long way. From Ajit Pawar to Praful Patel -- most important NCP leaders - are with us now and are part of the NDA.

The Maharashtra developments should open eyes for other regional parties such as the JD(U). This party has its origin in anti-Congress plank. Of course, in this category we cannot discuss about parties such as Trinamool Congress whose DNA is with the Corrupt and grossly inefficient Congress party.

We may refer to bit to what has Modi achieved during the last nine years. Shri Modi’s achievements are NDA’s achievements. We have changed the face of infrastructures and on this Union Minister Nitin Gadkari needs to be congratulated.

The NDA government also has a very good track record of performance. Over 13.5 crore people in India were lifted out of poverty after 2015-16 according to the Niti Aayog report.

Prime Minister Modi has raised India’s stature abroad. India, that is Bharat we often say, is now counted among the globally influential nations. India is now an important member of the Quad that includes the US, Australia and Japan.

At the same time in the neigbourhood, we are counted for the works done with ASEAN countries. India under Modi ji has been able to reshape the contours of diplomacy vis-à-vis smaller nations, members of ASEAN and also strong and powerful ones.

Shri Modi’s recent trip to France was equally successful. The Prime Minister has worked closely with France and during his recent trip both the countries have expanded the overall Indian Ocean Regional Framework.

Compared to all these the opposition coalition has not been able to offer any policy framework before the people of India. We have a performing Prime Minister to lead the NDA in the polls whereas there are 26 parties combo and the country will not be surprised to see at least 12-15 Prime Ministerial ambitious crowd.

To say it is for the people of India to decide could be wrong and underestimating people’s sense of political judgement. People of this nation has already made up its mind to make Narendra Modi their Prime Minister yet again.
