Manipur violence: Ex-army chief Gen (Retd) Naravane flags Chinese aid to insurgents ::: Govt to use 'foreign role cannot be ruled out' line fiercely !!

Manipur violence: Ex-army chief flags Chinese aid to insurgents, says 'foreign role cannot be ruled out'

"The involvement of the foreign agencies, not only I say, cannot be ruled out but I will say they are definitely there, especially Chinese aid to various insurgent groups,” Gen Naravane said. These remarks can be another game-changer in the context of ongoing debate on the deteriorating 'Manipur situation'.

'China angle' can be easily used in political rhetoric to corner Congress party as the grand old was equally and more than necessary 'excited' about Doklam row too !

"I am sure that those who are in the chair and responsible for taking whatever action is due to be taken are doing their best," General Naravane, however, said.

The former chief of the army staff said the Chinese aid has been helping these groups for years and will continue to do so even now.

On a question about the role of drug trafficking in the ongoing violence in the northeastern state, General (retd) Naravane said drug smuggling has been there for a very long time and the amount of drug which has been recovered has only increased over years.

"We are just a little remote from the Golden Triangle (the area where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet). Myanmar is always in a state of disarray and military rule. Even at the best of times in Myanmar, the government only had control over the central Myanmar not really on the peripheral bordering state whether with India or with China or with Thailand. So drug trafficking has always been there," he said.

Mizoram Govt yet to get central funds for 'displaced' Kuki population

New Delhi

The MNF regime in Mizoram could claim to be associates of the BJP, but there are severalissues and grievances being faced by the Zoramthanga regime.

The state government has made two specific requests to the centre for Rs 5 crore (and second time, Rs 10 crore) to cater to around 12,000 'internally displaced' Kuki population. But so far no aid has come.

Zoramthanga: Now funds crunch

"In fact, there is a fund crunch as no help has come from New Delhi so far. Chief Minister Zoramthanga alsospoke to Union Home Secretary Ashok Bhalla," a source in Aizawl said.

In view of administrative problems and financial crunch, the Mizoram Finance Department has now sanctioned Rs 5 crore as Interim Relief for the IDPs from Manipur.

Sources said two representations have been made on May 16 (Rs 5 crore) and May 23 (Rs 23 crore).

Mizoram Tourism Minister Robert Romawia Royte also personally met Home Secretary Bhallaand urged him to expedite the process.

There are already a large number of 'foreign nationals' from neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh taking shelter in Mizoram.

The state of Mizoram, the Zoramthanga govt and people have so far stoodby the needy people as well as thousands of 'kindred brothers' from Myanmar taking shelter since 2021.

Mizoram today is providing shelter to over 40,000 'Myanmar foreign nationals' who fled the neighboring country for fear of being persecuted by the military junta. There are 772 refugees from Bangladesh (also ethnic tribals) who have been allegedly bearing the brunt of Bangladesh forces' crackdown and now over 12,000 IDPs from Manipur.
