Now, Biren Singh uses Kargil Diwas function to lampoon at European Union and 'protesters' in Mizoram

Manipur Chief Minister and BJP leader N Biren Singh does not only remain defiant and 'unrelenting' about his position. On Wednesday,  July 26th, he made use of the Kargil Diwas function and lashed out at the European Union as well as Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga.

Zoramthanga is a MNF leader and the state-based party in poll-bound Mizoram is part of the BJP-led NDA and North East Democratic Alliance.

According to reports from Imphal, in his speech on Wednesday, Biren Singh strongly condemned the use of 'abusive words' against him in a solidarity rally held at Mizoram capital Aizawl, which was also attended by Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga.

"He (Biren Singh) urged Zoramthanga not to interfere in the internal affairs of another state," claimed a report in 'Imphal Free Press'.

He reiterated his government's stance to identify 'illegal immigrants' and drive them out of the state, and said that his government is not against the Kuki community, who has been residing in the state for a long time.

Stressing that the current tension in Manipur is between the state government and the elements who want to "disturb the peaceful coexistence" in the state, Biren Singh explained that tension erupted as the state government started acting against drug cartels.

The Manipur chief minister also expressed the state government's firm stand against the demand for a "separate administration".

Biren also condemned the resolution taken by the European Parliament regarding the crisis in Manipur, portraying it as a clash between the Hindus and Christians, without understanding the ground reality.

Biren Singh also stated that clashes among different communities residing in the state had occurred in the past too, but the communities have been 'living together as brothers' after the problems were solved.

"Refrain from violence so that we can all live together again as before," he appealed to the people.

Maintaining that the state government had been observing all incidents happening in the state, the Chief Minister warned against those elements who were trying to distort the integrity of Manipur. He stated that the government would not succumb to any threat.

Biren Singh lauded the contribution of central security forces in the government’s initiative to restore peace and further stressed the need to work with more sincerity and transparency. He mentioned that protecting the lives of the people is the responsibility of the Central and the state governments.

He said his government has been putting in every effort to restore peace and tranquility in the State by holding talks with different stakeholders and representatives of different communities, he informed the audience that the government had started constructing prefabricated houses at different places, to relocate those people displaced due to the current unrest.

He also claimed that steps had been taken to ensure the supply of essential items at relief camps.

Earlier in the day, BJP's lone Naga woman MP (from north east) S Phangnon Konyak flayed the opposition parties using quite a few strong words.

She said the people in the country are "well aware of its (opposition's) duplicity".

"In its desperate attempt to retain a semblance of relevance, the opposition is trying to paint itself with a new color. However fancy the color, people are all well too aware of its duplicity," she tweeted.

The BJP MP in Rajya Sabha also said, "It will be a short-lived experiment - one the opposition would like to quickly forget".

Another senior BJP leader from north east, M Chuba Ao (saffron party's national vice president), said, "I will not say much. It seems the Congress and other opposition parties have only used rhetoric power on the Manipur issues but now do not have confidence among themselves on how to face Home Minister Amit Shah on a debate on Manipur situation in Parliament".

Both the northeastern leaders' statements come close on the heels of Home Minister Amit Shah stating in Lok Sabha on Tuesday that, "We don't have anything to hide. We have to go to the polls and people are watching you. Create a conducive atmosphere for a discussion on this sensitive issue of Manipur....The government has no fear and anyone who wants to discuss it is welcome".
