Homage to Naga Kargil hero Lt Neibu of Nerhema village :::::: Opposition desperate to retain a "semblance of relevance", says Naga woman MP Phangnon

On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas,  Lt Gen R. N Kapur (Retd) pays homage to Naga Kargil War Hero Lieutenant Neikezhakuo (alias Neibu) Kengurusie of 2 Rajputana Rifles.

"He (Neibu) did proud not only to his Regiment but also to Nagaland and India. He will live on for ever in the memory of every Indian. My salute to him."

"Anti Pak slogans were reported (in Naga hills) which affirmed the faith in Indian Nationalism. No compensation is adequate for Martyrdom but to best of my memory the government had allotted a petrol pump and substantial monetary grant".

"I remember his martyrdom and am aware of the huge gathering of Nagas and non Nagas to pay their last respects.  A team of Officers visited his parents offering our heartfelt condolences and all possible help." - Let Gen Kapur, who served in Nagaland in the 1990s, told this blogger.

Homage to a Naga Kargil Hero  !!!

Naga Kargil hero !!

Lieutenant Neikezhakuo (alias Neibu) Kengurusie, an Angami Naga from Nerhema village. He attained martyrdom on June 28, 1999 at Black Rock, Kargil at the tender age of 24.

The 2 Rajputana Rifles officer was later posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second highest gallantry award. His funeral journey from Dimapur airport to Kohima left hundreds in moist eyes and the gathering was huge.

"Nagaland has not seen anything like that since the death of its legendary leader Phizo in 1990," reported 'Indian Express'.

Nagas or Khasis in Meghalaya could be anti-AFSPA but it may be one of the biggest blunders of our time if in Delhi any ivory tower expert within the government apparatus or outside (including in media) try to label the entire Naga population and others as anti-India.

Maybe, to call them 'anti-Indian army' per se too would be erroneous.

What's keep happening over the AFSPA is genuine, but the rest of it -- taking battle too far even in the context of Manipur is part of politics.

The BJP on Wednesday stepped up attack on the Opposition parties with the first Rajya Sabha woman lawmaker from Nagaland, Ms Phangnon Konyak stating that the people are "well aware of its duplicity".

"In its desperate attempt to retain a semblance of relevance, the opposition is trying to paint itself with a new color. However fancy the color, people are all well too aware of its duplicity," she tweeted.

The BJP MP also said, "It will be a short-lived experiment - one the opposition would like to quickly forget".

Ms Phangnon's statement comes close on the heels of Home Minister Amit Shah stating in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. "We don't have anything to hide. We have to go to the polls and people are watching you. Create a conducive atmosphere for a discussion on this sensitive issue of Manipur".

Mr Shah also said, "The government has no fear and anyone who wants to discuss is welcome".

"....the people of Manipur are expecting Parliament to rise above party politics," Amit Shah tweeted.

"I wrote to the opposition leaders of both houses, Shri Adhir Ranjan howdhury and Shri Mallikarjun Kharge appealing to them for their invaluable cooperation in the discussion of the Manipur issue.

The government is ready to discuss the issue of Manipur and seeks cooperation from all the parties, rising above party lines. I hope that all the parties will cooperate in resolving this important issue."
