(Sharad Pawar is one of the prime movers attempting to bring the Opposition together against the BJP for 2024, but now how much political capital he is left with.)

Nationalist Congress Party's Ajit Pawar joined the Sena-BJP govt in Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar takes oath as the Deputy Chief Minister. He will share the post with BJP's Devendra Fadnavis. 

Shell-shocked, the maestro of manipulative politics, Sharad Pawar now says: "Things will be clear before the public in next two-three days...I had called a meeting of some top leaders [of the party] on July 6 and was to discuss some questions pertaining to changes in the organization. 

Before that, some colleagues took a completely different stance and are today claiming to be the party. Things will be clear before the public in next two-three days". 

Ajit Pawar was certainly displeased when Surpiya Sule and Praful Patel were made working presidents of the party even as a few days earlier Pawar announced that he will quit as party chief. 

Is this game also 'googly' from Maratha strongman; or genuinely its shocker for 7-8 MP strong 'permanent PM materaial Maratha strongman'. The 'maestro' as real Godi-media would like to believe had earlier said 2019 Ajit Pawar associating with BJP was a googly !! 

Now what's it this time, more than googly?  About 2019 misadventure for BJP for tieing up with Ajit Pawar and getting Fadnavis and Ajit sworn in as CM and deputy CM respectively, Pawar had said, 

"They (BJP/Fadnavis) never understood my 'googly'. They lost their wicket. They will not know it because only the bowler knows the technique of 'googly'". Now who is the bowler....and is Amit Shah/Fadnavis team a better bowling side??

Sickulaism ! Sunday shocker !! Maratha strongman gets 'jolt' or is he still PM material ??.... 'pro-PM-material-media also shocked !! In June 2022, Shiv Sena got kits share of shocker and within a year now - perhaps - its the mirror staring at Pawarsaheb!!  

Is this game also his? Or should he retire in 'grace' ??  

Often in the past, Sharad Pawar’s friends and foes used to say that the Maratha strongman nursed a never ending dream to be Prime Minister. The closest to the position he came to realising his dream in 1991 after the Congress emerged as single largest party in the wake of a post-Rajv Gandhi assassination sympathy wave. Congress returned an overwhelming about two dozen MPs from his state but the party decided to settle for a near-retired P V Narasimha Rao and Pawar had to settle down as his Defence Minister. 

Acidly, Rao later shunted Pawar back to the Mantralaya in Mumbai elevating him again as the Chief Minister.  In a press conference following the oath-taking ceremony, Ajit Pawar said that the MLAs will be contesting the forthcoming elections under the NCP name and symbol. We have the blessings of everyone in the party, Ajit said. Our commitment is to work towards the progress and welfare of Maharashtra, and we are ready to undertake all necessary measures to achieve that goal, he added.

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar said that this scenario is not a new one for him, and asked the public to wait for a few days for the situation to clear up. On Ajit Pawar’s remark that if the NCP could go with the Shiv Sena [in the MVA govt.], then why not the BJP, Sharad Pawar said: “This may be his stance, but it is not compatible with the NCP’s principles.”

The swearing-in of Ajit Pawar and several of his colleagues has meant Maharashtra has seen four oath-taking ceremonies in as many years at its stately Raj Bhavan. Elections to the 288-member State Assembly are due next year.

The political development comes a year after a revolt led by Shinde against the Shiv Sena (then undivided) led to the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

The 'prospect' or the ambition in Pawar for the Prime Minister's post had never died down. In fact, his walking out of Congress along with equally ambitious P A Sangma and a practically baseless Tariq Anwar forming the famous troika of 1999 was only a manifestation of that ambition. Even Late Chandrashekhar, former PM used to speak on that line and also joked about Pawar often going soft on Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Even lately earlier this Mr Pawar surprised many when he took a defiant line vis-a-vis business tycoon Gautam Adani.  

Does this impact so-called opposition unity efforts? 

One argument is well, Mr Sharad Pawar was talking 'big' about opposition unity and he can't even keep his house in order !

'We are now in an alliance with BJP and Eknath Shinde faction. This is a decision taken by the party. It is high time we should all work for the betterment of Maharashtra," says Praful Patel, a die-hard Pawar loyalist.
