"Let us adopt large-scale organic farming... logistical challenges will not be hindrance in Pughoboto region," says LJP leader Dr Sukhato

Development politics has many facets. In the contemporary setting agri-sector deserves the due attention it must get.

Coming into Agri sector, there is need for boosting Organic farming and this is exactly being done by LJP (Ram Vilas) legislator Dr A Sukhato, a medico-turned-Neta.

LJP MLA, Dr Sukhato A Sema flagged off Transportation Vehicle for Pughoboto Organic Farmer Producer Company

Dr Sukhato emphasized the need for farmers to adopt (of change to) large-scale organic farming, assuring them that logistical challenges would no longer be a hindrance to their growth and market expansion.

This landmark initiative was aimed at boosting organic farming and improving logistical support for local farmers.

The LJP leader flagged off a transportation vehicle for Pughoboto Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited (FPC). The event was held at VDB Hall, Pughoboto Town, as part of the Annual General Meeting of the Farmer Producer Company under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for the North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER).

The event was graced by ADC Pughoboto Tiameren Chang, SDAO Pughoboto,  Kitoho Michael Swu, representatives from COLKS, and FPC representatives.

Needless to add - all of whom acknowledged the significance of the initiative in uplifting the local farming community.

In his speech, Dr Sukhato also extended his gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the Advisor of the Agriculture Department Mhathung Yanthan for their visionary leadership and commitment to agricultural development, which led to Pughoboto’s inclusion under MOVCD-NER Phase-IV.

"The state government is committed to empowering our farmers, ensuring that they have all the necessary resources and support to expand their production and reach new markets.

With this transportation vehicle, our organic produce will now have better access to consumers, both within and beyond Nagaland," said Sukhato A Sema.

Dr Sukhato also highlighted various government schemes and initiatives designed to benefit farmers.

He encouraged them to actively participate in subsidy programs, financial assistance schemes, and training sessions that would enhance their agricultural productivity.

A key focus of his speech was the Carbon Credit Programme, a global initiative that incentivizes eco-friendly and sustainable farming practices.

He elaborated on the pros and cons of the program, urging farmers to explore the potential of earning carbon credits by adopting climate-friendly agricultural methods.

"We must embrace sustainability in farming, not just for economic benefits but also for the preservation of our environment. The Carbon Credit Programme can open new financial avenues for our farmers while promoting responsible farming practices," he said.

The Pughoboto Organic Farmer Producer Company Ltd. currently supports 500 registered farmers, and the introduction of the transportation vehicle is expected to enhance market access, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve supply chain efficiency.

This initiative is a crucial step toward self-reliance and sustainability in the agricultural sector.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to continue strengthening organic farming, ensuring better financial security for farmers, and creating a sustainable agricultural ecosystem in Pughoboto.
