Nagaland Governor fails to draw any road map :::: merely refers to CM, Ministers Nov 21 meeting with Amit Shah ::: "expressed desire" for early Solution

Much ado about nothing ...

#Nagaland #Governor #La Ganesan's speech to the state assembly offers no new point ... no road map on Naga issue.

The Governor's address - Merely refers to Nov 21, 2024 (read failed) meeting between Nagaland CM Neiphu Rio and Ministers with Home Minister Amit Shah ... where in Ministers and CM Neiphiu Rio claimed to have expressed "desire" for early solution of the long pending Political Issue.

'first round belongs to me' : CM Rio

Governor La Ganesan's customary address to the state assembly should make the Status Quo club and the 'deep state' happy and feel relieved.

"We have been working to fulfill our  commitment to the people of our State. This House has  collectively taken steps to ensure the peaceful resolution of  the Naga Political Issue.

As assured on the floor of this  House by the Chief Minister, my Government held a  Consultative Meeting with the apex and influential tribal  bodies and civil society organisations to deliberate on the Naga Political Issue. The meeting was held on 12 September 2024.

I thank members of this august house for  their whole-hearted co-operation in this important matter.

Further, on 21 November 2024, the Chief Minister  accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues met the Union  Home Minister and apprised him of the desire of the people  for an early solution of the Naga Political Issue." - Governor said.

To speak the least, his Excellency the Governor has been economical with truth. If he referred to Nov 21 meeting, he should have mentioned the key demand (reportedly made during the meeting) when a new interlocutor was sought.

Needless to add, the demand was rejected by Amit Shah outright.

Ravi and Kitovi : Protagonists of Frustration

Nov 21 meeting snap: Shah was specific, but Governor misses 'opportunity'

The Governor also spoke about mining matters and said:

"The Department of Geology & Mining, is taking up  exploration aggressively of the three major minerals of the  State. Under the coal sector, regional exploration is being  undertaken in 2 blocks in Mokokchung district.

For strategic  mineral (Nickel, Cobalt) bearing iron ore deposits, the  department plans to take up detailed exploration in Pokphur  block in Kiphire district and G3 level exploration in Mollen  under Meluri district.

G3 exploration of limestone resource  in Mimi, Khongka and Hakumute under Kiphire district is  also being taken up.

For multi elemental analysis of  minerals, rocks & soil, the Department has strengthened its  chemical laboratory with the installation of WD-XRF  (Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence) facility.

"Efforts are also on to resolve the pending issues relating to  exploration and exploitation of petroleum oil and natural  gas with the Government of Assam in the Disputed Area  Belt (DAB) and with the Central Government for the rest of  the State," the Governor said.

Solution to Naga issue ::: Not a 'box' of fruit juice !!

With the Governor La Ganesan making a damp squib speech and avoiding any confrontation with the 'unstated' policy of the NDPP-BJP regime ... that seems like -- let us delay the Solution pact - by a few more months and years; the focus may now shift to the debate the members will have during the week-long Budget session of the state assembly.

The assembly session got underway on Monday, March 3, on the backdrop of NDPP chief Chingwang Konyak making a surprising admission that the talks have ended on Oct 31, 2019.

What is stunning to discover is that Governor La Ganesan's address even did not have the 'face value frankness' of what NDPP chief Chingwang had said.

Hence, the 'deep state' is not a typical American creation even those taking inspiration from Beijing can have their 'deep state'.

What makes the Govt of India give so much rope to the double engine apparatus in Kohima is a million dollar puzzle.

Yet another 'temporary setback' for veteran Jamir

The responsibility may now fall on legislators such as vocal NPF leader K Azo Nienu.

In a recent interview with the blogger Azo had stated that everyone is confused in Nagaland.

Frustration is dawning on other players as well.

New 'convener' of NNPG Neokpao Konyak has said that the Solution to the Naga issue after so much time spent on parleys (since 1997) is 'not coming' due to multiple factors including the stance taken by NSCN-IM stalwart Thuingaleng Muivah.

"NSCN-IM leader Muivah knows what he is asking will never be given ... but still...," Neokpao Konyak told this blogger during a detailed interaction on various facets of the Naga talks and the controversies surrounding various matters. The reference was to the NSCN-IM demands for a separate Flag and Naga constitution.

Neokpao

He made a veiled attack on what he said "political escapism" of some Naga leaders.

He lamented that : "The fact that Agreed Position mentions Naga right to self determination, history and identity and pays due respect to political realities of today, is something elite class of Naga society has failed to grasp or deliberately doing so".

"Whether it's Naga tribal color at work or the one organisation and few CSOs trying hard to blur the Agreed Position with wholesome praise for Framework Agreement is something Nagas need to carefully analyse.," he said.
