Jitendra Singh hits out at Rahul Gandhi over his July 21 protest
The Union Minister hit back at LoP Rahul Gandhi over his July 21 protest outside the Prime Minister's residence, accusing the Leader of the Opposition of staging a political spectacle driven by personal ambition rather than public interest.
Responding to Gandhi's remarks in the Lok Sabha, Singh said the Congress leader had gone and sat outside the Prime Minister's residence at 7 am in the hope of drawing attention, suggesting it reflected his long-standing desire to occupy 7, Lok Kalyan Marg as Prime Minister.
The Union minister claimed Gandhi initially hesitated to associate himself with the protest but joined only after realising it was gathering momentum, calling it a case of "FOMO" (Fear of Missing Out).
Addressing the Lok Sabha before the Bill was passed, Dr Jitendra Singh said the claim was "factually incorrect" and clarified that only tear gas was used during the police action.
He further stated that an order to open fire can only be issued by a magistrate and not by the police.
Earlier during the debate, Rahul claimed:
“The Home Minister ordered the shooting of our students. He put pellets into the blood of our students. He ordered the students of India to be shot,” Rahul said, referring to the police action during the CJP-led agitation.
He even said that “the use of force can only be authorised by the Home Minister or the Prime Minister."
“How can you say this? This is a breach of the privilege accorded to the Leader of the Opposition," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said and demanded apology from the Congress leader.
Rejecting another allegation made by Rahul Gandhi, the minister also denied the claim that Amit Shah was travelling with a convoy of 30 vehicles, calling it untrue.

Dr Jitendra Singh also targeted Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi over her claims regarding paper leaks in the country. He said Priyanka Gandhi had claimed that examination papers had leaked 152 times and questioned the basis of the figure.
Singh further alleged that Rahul Gandhi refused to leave the protest side from near PM's residence despite being politely advised against the demonstration, forcing the police to remove him.
He said the episode exposed Gandhi's "suppressed ambition" to live at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg and become the country's leader.
Singh said he had verified the figures from the written script Priyanka Gandhi had submitted in Parliament and argued that the claim did not stand scrutiny.
"I don't know where this figure came from. Either it is fabricated, or it is mischievous, or it reflects ignorance," he said.
Singh also disputed Priyanka's assertion that no action had been taken since the anti-paper leak law came into force in 2024, saying 52 FIRs had been registered under its provisions over the past two years, including 29 under the Prevention of Unfair Means Act and 23 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
