After the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA had 293 MPs, including the BJP's 240. Its tally rose to 318 in 2026 because 20 rebel Trinamool MPs aligned with the NDA.
In addition, six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs also merged with the Shinde Sena faction.
In 2002 -- first few days mayhem; he did not what was going on. But he knew how to turn the table on media and had
told some of us --- "mei ney public nas pakda hae".

Media laughed. English press dismissed him. Sickularism was singing its own song !!
Now in 2026 -- he found himself cornered. But he knew how to "bow" down before public/youth pressure.

The Lotus party is a party which obsesses over the future. That a resignation would create precedence was one of the key reasons it didn't want Dharmendra Pradhan to go.
Modi himself does not appreciate such precedence ! But then, the BJP has bigger Parliament plans.

The BJP and NDA priority now will be now Parliament.
The opposition parties may have to behave responsibly. Another Sanghparivar associate said -
"Public kabhi kabhi bhola hoten haen... To make Pradhan mantri get back his rhythm; Dharmandra Pradhan had to go any way."
We also understand this. In fact, the speculation about cabinet reshuffle was on these lines. Had Dharmendra Pradhan been shifted by PM himself; he could be still in the ministry.
Grapevine has it - after May, Pradhan wanted to "step aside" more than once. But his plea was turned down. In the entire process; he became a newsmaker. The circumstances forced him out of the ministry.
But he had been made a martyr and a neo-BJP hero.
The CJP stir and related developments and Rahul Gandhi sitting on Dharna at an "ill-advised location" actually diverted attention of public from Ayodhya. At least media lost the issue for last few days and even about a week.
"If Parliament management by Kiren Rijiju and others are smooth and Delimitation and Women quota bills are passed. we will know who has the last laugh," says an analyst.
"... those who know the third party 'win' will finish Congress and other opposition parties .. they are called 'Rahul Gandhi and his party'. This happened in 2012-13. The AAP came out of the Lokpal movement but everywhere it is a threat to Congress and not BJP," says Varanasi-based Tushar Bhadra.
The Congress party knows where the shoe pinches. And hence the outburst -

With regard, Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation - 'India Today' says in an article -
"With 'what if tomorrow...' on its mind, the BJP tried to delay what was destiny."
It is true two senior ministers — J P Nadda and Jitendra Singh — succeeded in getting Wangchuk to end his fast, toning down his demand for Pradhan's resignation.
But by then, the protest had become way bigger than Wangchuk or the Cockroach Janta Party. The fire had spread and it needed a sacrifice made.
The Delimitation Bill is special and will leave Congress further dejected.
In April this year, the government had convened a special session to tie it with the Women's Reservation bill. But it was defeated as the treasury could not muster the support of two-thirds majority. But political scenario and numbers have changed especially after West Bengal polls and the split in TMC and Shiv Sena.
The landmark bills could be brought in the session that would continue till August 13.
