"Be it ethanol, students' issues, 'Sadan ki Chori', Manipur issue, temple theft... Govt will suffer it if runs away"

Speaking after an all-party meeting convened on Sunday in New Delhi, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi said the Opposition had urged the Centre to allow detailed debates on issues affecting the public instead of focusing solely on its legislative agenda. 

"We raised these issues and demanded a discussion on them in Parliament. The most important being the theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The government should express its sensitivity to it," Gogoi told the press at the Parliament House complex.

"We are also seeing protests by students, but none from the government is taking moral responsibility," he maintained. 

The all-party meeting was held a day before the commencement of the Monsoon Session, which is expected to witness sharp exchanges between the treasury and Opposition benches over several political and legislative issues. 

The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, also deputy leader of Lok Sabha, and attended by several Union ministers and leaders from various Opposition parties. 

The session, scheduled from July 20 to August 13, will have 19 sittings. 

The government has listed several key Bills for consideration, while the Opposition is expected to push for discussions on issues including the situation in Manipur, student protests, the alleged theft of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple, women's reservation and delimitation.

 

Gaurav Gogoi alleged that while the Opposition is raising matters of public concern, the government is choosing to ignore them. 

"Be it ethanol, students' issues, 'Sadan ki Chori', Manipur issue, temple theft... If the government runs away from these issues, then it will suffer," the Congress MP said. 

The entire opposition on Sunday staged a symbolic walk out from the all-party meeting convened here ahead of Parliament's Monsoon Session to protest against the invitation extended to rebel TMC MPs.

The opposition also protested against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's decisions on the rebel TMC lawmakers, allowing them separate seats in the House and merger of the rebel Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs with the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
