Many tribal children and their mothers in violence-hit Manipur 'emotionally remember' one unknown uncle. The individual had organised Kheer (a common Indian sweat meat) party during the peak of intra-tribal clashes and largescale mob violence between Tangkhul Nagas and Kukis.
Reports say once things deteriorated on and after Feb 10 (2026) and there came a time when the young children in hundreds would have been compelled to sleep without food. Reports spread across the hills.
People who heard about such a situation did not 'ask' which community children faced such dire consequences. What was important was that the innocuous children would be sleeping over the night - empty stomach and at best 'half bed'. But things did not happen much beyond that. At best - some people sympathised and shed tears ... fearing the anguish of the 'other community'.
Hence, the so-called sympathy was not at all backed by adequate action - that is any humanitarian assistance.
However, the 'individual' being referred to did not stop at that cosmetic level of sympathy. He asked his wife, other family and a few friends to make Kheer of two bags of rice.
"Sir jee had said .... he is also father of two children and he cannot let the children sleep in such dire conditions. You all come forward and help me. Because I cannot do all these all alone..," recalls a local acquaintance.
He did not reveal much about the man. His argument was the 'individual we are talking about' had made us swear that no one would reveal his name. He was not after some name or publicity.
"The gentleman told us .... man cannot help or harm anyone. The real help comes or is possible when God up there wants it. So why keep telling people I did it ... and I did that", recalled the acquaintance.
Thus, such a unique 'human interest' story of support for numerous children had gone unreported and unrecognised.
But who was that individual ? A key security officer in a prestigious organisation -- known for 'friendship' in east and north east India.
This is the story of a simple man and his simple 'greatness'. And a big picture message that real Greatness lies in helping others especially the vulnerable ones.
Well; there may still be a catch. Otherwise, everyone would be copying the exponential system of becoming 'great' and everyone would be great !!
