The Assam government has told an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) that the recent floods in Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat were unprecedented, attributing the disaster largely to exceptionally 

heavy rainfall in neighbouring Nagaland.

Rainfall was recorded at 181% above normal across the state, including a staggering 493% departure from normal in Mokokchung, 

108% in Wokha 

and 45% in Mon. 

The rainfall, coupled with localised extremely heavy showers in Charaideo and Sivasagar, led to widespread inundation across the affected districts. 

The Assam government also outlined the rescue operations carried out with the help of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Emergency Services personnel and local volunteers. Officials said relief assistance was being provided in accordance with existing guidelines, while family relief kits containing rice, dal, mustard oil, salt and candles were being dispatched from neighbouring districts to Sivasagar and Charaideo. 

The Assam government informed the Central team that damage assessment in the four districts is still underway and that a comprehensive flood memorandum would be submitted to the Centre after the flood season concludes.  

The Indian  Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday concluded its six-day humanitarian air operation in Nagaland after evacuating 64 more stranded passengers and airlifting 6.85 metric tonnes of relief materials to flood-hit areas of Longleng district.

On the final day of operations, two IAF helicopters transported 3.30 metric tonnes of essential relief supplies to EAC Headquarters, Namsang, and another 3.55 metric tonnes to Tamlu Headquarters.

According to an update from Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the first helicopter carried 1.80 metric tonnes of relief materials to Namsang before flying to Tamlu, where it successfully landed and evacuated 22 stranded passengers to Dimapur Airport.

After returning to Dimapur, the same helicopter undertook two additional sorties, transporting another 3.55 metric tonnes of relief supplies to Tamlu. 

It later evacuated 19 stranded passengers from Tamlu and 23 others, including a child, from Longleng to Dimapur, bringing the day's total evacuation to 64 people, including students and patients.
