Finally, the Fifa World Cup final is here.
Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi meet in a clash of generations in Sunday’s blockbuster Spain vs Argentina World Cup final in New York.
The showdown will stage a unique battle, pitting the tournament’s best attack against the best defence –
Argentina have scored the most goals (19); Spain have conceded the fewest (one).
But for a while let us keep the football aside. The Fifa World Cup 2026 had certain other meaning in Manipur. It's a BJP-ruled state in the north east. It has ben witnessing violence since 2023.
In 2026, the old festering wound 'Tangkhal Naga-Kuki' clash revived. But as the fallout ... some parts of the state faced immense power crisis.
Kamjong township was one such. It had power crisis for 9 days.
(Kamjong region is also hub of timber supply route. Obviously, big money and 'gangs' involved)
Kamjong is a hilly district in Manipur.
Created in 2016 by splitting Ukhrul district. Located 120 km from state capital Imphal, it serves as an administrative headquarters and shares a long, porous international border with Myanmar.
The area is predominantly inhabited by the colorful Tangkhul Nagas and Kuki tribes.
But during the peak of socio-political crises and tension as the electricity supply stopped for hours - football fans were more aggrieved.

Rising above their ethnic/tribal connections; the football fans approached authorities and ensured power supply is restored. Officials also confessed - "We had to do our job .... after all it was related to football".
