Her Story is History ....

(memorable headline in 'Indian Express' )

India made history in Navi Mumbai as they beat South Africa by 52 runs to lift maiden Women's World Cup title

Team India won their maiden Women's World Cup title with a 52-run convincing and a sensational victory over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday around mid-night, Nov 2-3.

Beti ko khelne do ... World Cup ayega #WomensWorldCup2025

India gets its tryst with destiny

Put into bat, the hosts rode half-centuries from Shafali Verma (87) and Deepti Sharma (58) to post 298-7.

Experts were still not happy as around 350 big score looked well within their reach at one stage. Nevertheless, 298 turned out to be a far-cry for visitors. And the Indian girls made it.

The flying ball from Nadine de Klerke bat swung up and Indian skipped Harmanpreet Kaur’s hands did the magic catch to end India’s wait for their moment of glory.

It was a quick reminder ... catches win matches.

Kapil Dev had done so in 1983 at the Lords ... wicket loser was illustrious magician with the bat Vivian Richards. That was another world cup. - The Prudential Cup !!

As expected; the country erupted in joy - stadium in Navi Mumbai included.

Victory crackers were burst in far off Ghaziabad and other parts of Delhi and NCR and also Kolkata, Bengaluru and the villages and small towns in Jammu and Kashmir, poll-bound Bihar and north east India.

Indian women toppled South Africa by 52 runs to lift their maiden women’s World Cup.

The palms that took the catch that etched a glorious moment raised the trophy in joy. There were fun ... as young ladies celebrated the big occasion.

Fifteen women in blue shirts, soaked in sweat, soil and tears of joy !!

"It was the night that would define their lives, the moments that would remain in their minds forever, immune to the ravages of time and memory," says the report in 'Indian Express'.

Reaching the final for a third time, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side dominated the contest from the off at DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, although South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt did her best to spoil the hosts’ party in the run chase.

India had come close twice before, reaching the final in 2005 and 2017, losing to Australia and England, respectively.

This was also the first women’s World Cup final that did not involve either Australia or England, the former being the record winners with seven victories to their name.

Deepti Sharma got a near meticulous half-century

South Africa started the chase solidly enough, the opening pair bringing up the fifty partnership in the 10th over.

Amanjot Kaur's brilliant piece of fielding got rid off Tazmin Brits (run out) and that started things in India's favour.
