Politics and Church in Nagaland :::: What's FNR ..... Hearing it straight from a candid Naga observer .... Khekiye Sema :::::: "FNR has not been able to address the subject matter of a Naga political issue" :: Theja says "Peace Process is biggest Burden" ... veiled attack on Urban Naxals and Status Quo club

There's much controversy around what FNR is doing and what FNR is not doing in Nagaland about peace talks ... Solution to the nexd Naga issue !!

... Perhaps more debatable issue has been -- where in "Kohima" remains the source of mighty inspiration for the organisation ...

vis-a-vis the Naga talks.

"Let me tell you very frankly ... FNR is more or less a religious background forum with a very serious Christian ethics of Reconciliation and Cooperation," retired civil servant L. Khekiye Sema told journalists at Dimapur on Thursday, Nov 13.

"These are well deserving efforts and we applaud them for trying to bring the Nagas togther in a spirit of forgiveness and togetherness.

These are exercises that is required ... whether now .... or post-Solution; the FNR's responsibility of what they are trying to do is an honourable work where they are calling upon Nagas to try and live a united way of life," Khekiye articulated it so well.

"This is something we applaud .... But the problem here is the FNR has not been able to address the subject matter of a Naga political issue. ...

They have not got an end vision as to where they are taking this Movement towards ... whereas the GB Federation has a clear stand on a political issue, saying - Nagas have a political problem with India and we want a Solution ... based on two agreements (FA and Agreed Position).

"This is a definitive objective with which the GBs are steering this particular  with a final objective and a goalpost. FNR does not have that".

Hence, Khekiye clarified the Common Platform as envisioned under the aegis of the GB Federation is not the parallel kind of movement.

"FNR is completely separate and their effort is towards a ... bigger picture of Naga unity as a way of life.

But Today ... we are addressing the Indo-Naga issue as an issue that deserves to be addressed".

Another prominent social activist Theja Therieh said -- "... it is important for us to conclude these negotiations.

This (Naga Peace) Negotiation cannot be indefinite. 28 years of negotiation is enough...10 years of Framework Agreement kept on hold. Eight years of Agreed Position kept on hold.

For how long the people will bear with this burden of the Peace Process.

"Today, the Peace process is one of the huge and the biggest Burden on the people", he lamented in a veiled attack on the Status Quo club and the protagonists -- those in Kohima, Manipur, Dimapur and outskirts and of course in Delhi and the national capital region.

"We therefore must give a Platform to people to come .. to rise for the occasion and speak out their mind."

In what is seen as direct attack on various pressure groups and bodies -- those allegedly have been badly influenced by the power that may be in Delhi or Kohima --- Theja said :

"Unfortunately, today we do not have a single body that will take an independent decision".

Theja said -- tongue in cheek style -- "Many a times we are comfortable with sponsored meetings and pre-drafted Resolution".  ---

(This is yet another instance of veiled attack on those in power and who try to influence civil society and other pressure groups.)

"We are not speaking the voice of the people.... What we need now is the civil voice of the people".

Referring to Framework Agreement inked on Aug 3, 2015; Theja said -- "This agreement (gentlemen agreement) was kept in total darkness for a long period of time.

"The NSCN-IM failed to attract the other political groups on board. They failed to communicate with stake holders. And is where restiveness (caught up) ....".

"Anxiety built up ... and during such time, the NTC decided and we formed a Mediation Committee.... Later on the GB Federation joined .... and we decided to take this challenge and bridge the gap".

Elaborating in certain details he also referred to the Naga delegation meeting a number of union ministers, NSA Ajit Doval and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017. And it was underlined and impressed upon with the Govt of India -- "... that the the need of the hour is to have an inclusive agreement where everyone is taken on board".

PM Modi told the Naga delegation : "The Govt of India is embarrassed that for long seven decades that we could not come out with any Solution and we have not seriously attended to bring Solution to the Naga politcal problem.

"Yes ... (PM Modi told Naga leaders) .. We are willing to talk to all the groups who are willing to talk but after talking to all of them we will get into one and only one agreement".

The delegation agreed and welcomed the initiatives.

Theja said ... after the Agreed Position was signed ... "we were hoping that something is arriving .....".

But then Governor and interlocutor R N Ravi was transferred out and the Govt of India  decided not to appoint any interlocutor.

"Because the talks have come to an end on Oct 31, 2019."
