After Bihar, 'Twitter shocker rattles Congress ::::: "A large number of pro-Congress, anti-Hindu, and divisive caste-based handles are operating from Pakistan" ::: Pawan Khera ... US ... 'Maharashtra Congress' ... Ireland

Analysis shows that multiple X (twitter) accounts that often pushed political narratives, propaganda, and disinformation were operating from foreign locations, often Pakistan or West Asia.

A quick check found that the account of Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera shows "based in the United States". Similarly, the account of the Maharashtra Congress shows it is based in Ireland.

Accounts of several anti-government voices were found to be based outside India, with most showing "South Asia" as their origin.

Nevertheless, the issue has given the BJP ammo to corner the Congress, with IT Cell chief Amit Malviya calling the pattern a coordinated global operation to influence India's social discourse and spread misinformation.

"A large number of pro-Congress, anti-Hindu, and divisive caste-based handles are not even operating from India. Many are being run from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other parts of Asia and the world. Almost all of them have changed their usernames multiple times to mask their identity," Amit Malviya tweeted.

"What does this show? A coordinated global operation to influence India's social discourse, spread misinformation, and deepen internal divisions.

This conspiracy against India now stands exposed," he further said.  The new feature is part of X's bid to boost transparency on a platform that has long been billed as rife with disinformation. Now, a simple click in the "About This Account" section allows everyone to see where an account is based, how often the username has been changed, and from where they downloaded the X app.

BJP leaders said that several examples vindicated the government's assertion that many X handles, which amplified previous protests like those against the CAA or now-withdrawn farm laws, were being operated from abroad.

Political analyst and BJP leader Priti Gandhi said a similar pattern was seen during the anti-CAA protests, farmers' agitation and 2020 Delhi riots – spewing communal poison, inciting protests and spreading doctored videos.

"The rot is now so deep that even official Congress handles are being operated from overseas.

When party-verified accounts themselves start showing foreign login footprints, it raises a far bigger question. Who exactly is shaping Congress's digital messaging?" tweeted BJP leader Priti Gandhi.

Another curious case that has emerged is of the accounts of 'Diya Sharma' and 'Yashita Nagpal', both of which were found to be based in Pakistan.

Both accounts contain posts critical of the BJP and the government.

On Tuesday, the account of 'Diya Sharma' showed it is suspended. 'Yashita Nagpal', who claims to be a journalist "uncovering politics and social issues", said in a post that she was hired not just by the Congress, but by other parties as well.

"I was hired not just by Congress, but other political parties in India as well to be apart of their campaign few months back. Luckily, I changed the location of the accounts I am currently using in time (sic)," the post read.

BJP's Malviya, in another post, said it was part of an entire wave of "new-age Congress supporters" now being exposed as largely Pakistani or Bangladeshi in origin.

"These handles are either: ISI-linked outfits pushing anti-India propaganda, or individuals from across the border indulging in routine anti-Hindu bigotry under the guise of Congress support," he said.

Malviya also linked it to what he claimed was a "recurring mismatch" between Congress's pre-election hype and the actual results.

"The 'support' isn't Indian – it's manufactured through bot networks, agencies, and cross-border operations. It doesn't reflect real voters," he further said.
