EC meets Mamata's delegation of MPs ::: Lawmakers flag 5 Questions ::: Poll panel warns political parties against "threatening" BLOs who are conducting door-to-door verification of voters

'Politically Motivated': Poll Body On Trinamool's 'Blood On Hands' Remark

EC has issued a stern warning to all political parties against pressurising or threatening BLOs who are conducting door-to-door verification of voters.

The Election Commission issued a sharp rebuttal to the Trinamool Congress's accusation that the poll body chief has "blood on his hands" over the deaths of 40 Booth Level Officers during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise in West Bengal.

Moreover, the EC has issued a series of key directives and clarifications to ensure free, fair, and fearless conduct of elections. Immediate police protection has been ordered for all Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and District Election Officers (DEOs) - all state government employees on deputation - so they can carry out their duties without fear, coercion, or intimidation from any political party.

District Election Officers have been instructed to establish additional polling stations in slum areas, high-rise buildings, and gated communities to enhance voter convenience and accessibility.

In response to credible intelligence about a potential security breach, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, is being relocated immediately to a more secure premise with comprehensive police protection.

The draft electoral roll is scheduled for release in less than two weeks - by Dec 9th. The final list to be released on February 7, 2026.

The Election Commission made it clear that the revision process will continue strictly as per law, free from political pressure or intimidation.

A 10-member delegation, led by TMC Rajya Sabha leader Derek O'Brien, met the EC officials amid the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union territories, including West Bengal.

The delegation consisted of Lok Sabha MPs Mahua Moitra, Satabdi Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Pratima Mondal, Sajda Ahmed, and Rajya Sabha MPs Dola Sen, Mamata Thakur, Saket Gokhale, and Prakash Chik Barik.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, O'Brien said the party raised five questions, but Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar did not give any answers.

"We started the meeting by stating that the CEC has blood on his hands.

We raised five questions.

After this, Kalyan Banerjee, Mahua Moitra, and Mamata Bala Thakur spoke and shared whatever they had to in about 40 minutes," O'Brien said.

"Then the CEC spoke uninterrupted for one hour. We were also not interrupted while we spoke, but we did not receive any answer to any of our five questions," he said.
