Four Kuki militants neutralised in army and Assam Rifles operation :::: Social organisations call the episode Tragic

'Operation Khanpi' in Manipur

"Successful neutralisation of terrorists highlights the Indian Army and Assam Rifles commitment to protecting innocent civilians, mitigating all threats and ensuring peace and security in Manipur," said a source.

The United Kuki National Army (UKNA) is a Kuki armed group that is not a signatory to the Suspension of Operations agreement.

This was related to an early hours operation on Nov 4th.

In the early hours of 4 Nov 2025, during an intelligence based operation, terrorists resorted to unprovoked firing on the Army column at Khanpi village, approximately 80 Km west of Churachandpur in Manipur.

In the ensuing firefight between Security Forces and armed cadres of United Kuki National Army (UKNA), four cadres were neutralised.

UKNA - according to security apparatus falls under non-SOO (suspension of operation) category.

Further search of the adjoining areas were carried out later. Details awaited.

This operation follows recent atrocities by UKNA cadres including killing of a village chief, intimidation of locals and attempts to disrupt peace and stability in the region, sources said.

The killings have drawn sharp reaction from several Kuki civil organisations, including the Kuki Inpi Churachandpur, Kuki Chiefs Association, Kuki Women’s Union, and Kuki Students’ Organisation, which issued a joint statement condemning the incident.

Calling it “tragic,” they appealed to both the security establishment and armed groups to exercise restraint and prevent further escalation.

The groups also announced a district-wide shutdown in Churachandpur on the day of the funeral as a mark of mourning. Reiterating their long-standing demand for a political settlement, the organisations urged the government to open dialogue and consider a separate administrative arrangement for Kuki–Zo areas.

Security has been stepped up across Churachandpur.
