The Committee on Tribal Unity in Manipur has stated that "removal" of two Assam Rifles battalions 9 AR and 22 Assam Rifles from fringe areas of Kuki-Zo dominated areas was to deploy armed Meitei groups.
It said the organisation is perturbed to learn that some valley based "insurgent groups the ĶCP-PWG" have occupied Patjang village, a Kuki-Zo Village within the hill areas of Kangpokpi District breaching the buffer zones on November 6th.
Another body of tribal Kuki and Zo people, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum has stated that "the Government of India’s reluctance to take a decisive stand" against Chief Minister N Biren Singh has "emboldened these (armed Meitei groups)".
