New Delhi
Old wine in a new bottle - is a maxim that sticks to NDPP-BJP combine quite easily.
Neiphiu Rio is the man of the match.
This time the name of the game is "political interlocutor" vis-a-vis diversionary tactic.
But will someone clarify whether diversionary tactic is to ensure survival and also a face-saver after mishandling FNT issue.
On this, the state government almost had surrendered own rights.
As the pressure mounts for an early Solution and some players seem to push the case of NDPP; the status quo club also got a smell and hence the good old drama could be re-enacted soon.
New Delhi analysts are also doing their permutation-combination. There is an apprehension that the State cabinet now wants to use an "hardened position" to push for a seemingly hidden genda - "political interlocutor".
This will basically find a new fault guy in A K Mishra, who was tasked the assignment of being a peace interlocutor, after replacing of the then Governor RN Ravi.
Lately, the NSCN-IM has put pressure on the Govt of India by demanding third party international intervention and also its general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah threatening to revive violence.
For his part, Neiphiu Rio had used Sept 12 meet and adopted a resolution to press for new political interlocutor. This meeting and resolution were guided by "agenda" - which is hardly saintly.
Of course, most key players in India will rule out third party international intervention. In Delhi, mandarins feel the NSCN-IM will make an agreeable deal for a possible climb down from third party angle and may embrace political interlocutor.
Will Amit Shah fall into this trap and make A K Mishra a "sacrifacial goat" just as Ravi was shunted out ?
But the argument is ultimately even a political interlocutor will work under the Govt norms and constitutional provisions. It will hardly make a substitute for international third party.
Old tricks may win another battle.
